Relax boys. Sounds like Danny got a good deal, but did his price include tax, which many of our southern neighbours on these forums omit when they post prices. Ditto for shipping. Wine Searcher shows prices of $35-46 a bottle. Regardless, this is an excellent bottle of wine for $45.

I paid $29.95 per bottle before tax...which made each bottle about $32.50. This is splitting hairs. Grab a bottle for the C$43 or 45 or whatever and see if it's worth it to YOU...I wouldn't have been bitter if I had paid a few more bucks to try this wine...I enjoyed it very much.

I've got the '98, '99, and '01 vintages sitting in my cellar. All were purchased from the LCBO and I paid $45 Cdn for each of these past vintages, so the current price is completely in line.

Good news is, 250 cases are coming in. That means all C-allotment and higher stores will get at least some. That's pretty much every major (top 50) store in the province. No need to trudge to Summerhill for this one...

Or just call a store outside of the GTA and ask that they order in 4 bottles in for you. See This. I can't quite remember how they define GTA, but I'm pretty sure Oakville is not included.

Unfortunately ... bit of a problem with special orders.

Only 10% of total inventory is reserved for special orders, and in extreme cases like the Signature (where demand will obviously exceed supply), they will start fulfilling orders by region: the farther away from one of the two city centers, the more likely the order will be fulfilled.

On the bright side, I know Oak Park is down for minimum 36 bottles.

It's a clean, modern wine of ample-weight with a supple consistency, a harmonious, sophisticated and diverse complexity, and whilst it is approachable now, it will improve. Blackcurrant, mint, blueberry, coffee and aniseed flavours finish on long tannins. Rated as Excellent with *** for value (based on the RRP, although it would definitely get **** when you find it on special at A$30.) Drink over the next 10 years plus.

A$40 list price is about $35 US/CDN which is about the average US retail price. At LCBO it's about 30% more expensive at $45.

TORB, how's the availability of this wine in Melbourne or Adelaide? I'll be there soon and want to try it but also want to minimize being ripped off by the LCBO.

There is still a fair bit around but as the vintage is about to change, getting it on special will be difficult. ]This guy still has some at $A40 and is a very reputable retailer; I buy a lot of my wine from him.

I loved the 99, and liked the first bottle of 2001 I tried, but the last two have been disappointing. I don't know if this wine would go through something like a dumb phase but I almost returned my other two bottles.

I had some '01s and I also returned them. They seemed to be going nowhere fast.

This lable is notorious for going through dum phases. The 1996, for example, when through an extended one. It is only now just coming good.

2001 was a very hot year, so it should come out earlier than many others. I would give it about 2 more years.

BTW, by chance I had a 96 last night and it was a mighty fine wine with many years ahead; it's only just entering its peak window. The 02 would have similar longevity. It should be at least a 15 year, possibly a 20 year wine.

Have you had the 1996 Yalumba The Reserve lately or have any thoughts on where that might be in its drinking window? I have two of both The Reserve and The Signature. I have the first of The Signatures on tap for next year, so I was glad to hear your good report on it.

As a generality, 96 will be very long lived, far longer than 98. I still have 4 of The Reserve and when I had the last a couple of years ago, it was still asleep. (The 98 I had recently was much more forward and enjoyable at this stage.) It will be time to try a 96 soon, so I will keep you posted.
