Tasted blind
#1. 1997 Santa Cruz Mountain Vineyard Duriff
#2. 2000 EOS Reserve Petite Sirah
#3. 1999 Schuetz Oles Petite Sirah Napa
#4. 1999 Guenoc Petite Sirah North Coast
#5. 2001 Trentadue Petite Sirah Alexander Valley
#6. 2002 Vinum Petite Sirah Wilson Vineyards
#7. 2000 Foppiano Petite Sirah

Groups top three:
1. Guenoc
2. Trentadue
3. Vinum
My top three:
1. Trentadue
2. Guenoc
3. Foppiano

The Trentadue exibited lots of chocolate in the mouth with some red meat (medium well). The bouqet had hints of smoke and black pepper. This wine was just awesome.

I would buy any of these wines except for #3 and #6. The Schuetz had a decent bouqet, but in the mouth, I felt like I was drinking water. No structure whats so ever. The Vinum didn't impress me at all and I am suprised it even got ranked. All I got was alcohol. I could of sworn that this smelled like a wet diaper....don't ask! Eek

I must say again that I was very impressed with these wines. The majority were very dark and inky and the tannins subsided after a little air. Talk about Jammy. I loved this stuff.

Not too many people liked the Santa Cruz because of its' perceived "Old World" barnyard bouqet. I didn't get that though. I ranked this a strong 4th.

Cheers to GrapeFriends!
