I'm looking to set up a wine tasting club with a group of friend. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to do this? What group size is the best? How should the tastings be organized (wine style, region, etc)?
Pick the number of people and pick a theme and pick a host and make it a pot luck with a wine and simple food theme. White Burgundy is a good place to start with bread cheese and veggies. Maybe a little richer food with a grand cru chablis but it's all about tasting and hanging out with other wine folks.
You should have eight people. That way if two are gone, you still have six people. And if two extra people come, you only have ten.
Organize by what you're most curious about. Want to try a bunch of Shiraz... do it. Want to try wines from Chile. Do it. Want to try 2002 Bordeaux. Do it. Wanna try a blind tasting. You know what I'm gonna say.
As an experienced wine partier, there are a few things you should know: 1. Usually there is lots of drinking. 2. Where there is heavy drinking, there is usually some fighting. 3. An increase in sexual activity often corollates to wine parties.
As to the perfect number of guests... I'll be over at 8! (modified camping joke)
