Who do you think has the finest touch in rating Brunello? As I find scores all over the place -Wine spectator -jancis Robinson -anthony galloni -james suckling -Tim Atkins -Other
I think that JS has lost track over the past years. At least until the '01 BdM vintage I found his notes quite useful. Galloni has been the most consistent IMO. And even though I often have different preferences than Bruce Sanderson (and resulting ratings), I do think his notes are often quite good.
BTW, I have to skip my usual spring visit to Montalcino this year because I'm too busy with my company. And it doesn't help that I have no high expectations of the '08 vintage... I have to wait and see what is left for me when I am there on holiday in July.
I'm pretty sure you might be able to find a bottle or two in July Albert. JS did go off the rails, score inflation through the roof and a penchant for over- ripe, dare I say Merlot blends. I see Galloni starting down the same path.
I will also be there in July so maybe we can share a brunello or two...or three! I tasted a lot of the 08's and they were all over the place. It is truly a reflection of the zone and the skills of the winemaker. Some were very good but others substandard.
I don’t follow wine ratings much anymore, but if you are looking for good coverage, I think Bruce Sanderson has done a great job covering Italy for the mag.
