OK, enough said with the main course. Sides: twice-baked potatoes and corn on the cob.

Any recommendations?

When in doubt, drink a Zin.

Spanish Grenache, Cotes du Rhone...

...two wines that are on my short list.

Your bad list? Try 06/07 Borsao Monte Oton or 05 Dom Grand Veneur Cote du Rhone. I have has zero luck with Cotes du Rhone. This was wonderful.
Meatloaf can be a blank slate. It all depends on how you make your meatloaf. What blend of meats? Ketchup, BBQ sauce, gravy, onions, peppers, garlic etc etc. Any specifics?
Zin would be fun. How about a South American Malbec?

I'm sorry, all I keep seeing in my mind is the great scene from Weding Crashers in which Will Ferrell's character (in his mom's basement) says, "You want some?!? MOM!!! The meatloaf!!! F***!!!" Had me absolutely rolling.
OK, the meatloaf has been consumed. It was prepared with onion, garlic, and some breadcrumbs. Ketchup was not added.

I decided to go with a Rioja and it actually worked quite well; not overpowering and nicely balanced.

Next time I will try a Rhone.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone.

That was a great scene.
