Wine Classes for an Enthusiast?

Hello all,

Wanted to get your thoughts on wine classes for someone who doesn't plan on working in the industry. I took a look at the International Sommelier Guild, Wine and Spirits Education Trust, and the International Wine Guild so far.

Mostly I imagine getting to the level of possibly being a judge at wine competitions, maybe doing some projects for restaraunts, etc. But not going so far as to change careers.

The IWG seems to be the only one that specifically says they cater to enthusiasts and professionals, but I wanted to see what everyone here thought.
