This summer I’m taking my family, along with friends to the Galapagos. I would like to have some decent wine to drink on the boat. If I bring along wine in my luggage I’ll have to deal with the issue of customs (1 liter allowed) and risk delay and confiscation. Question 1: does anyone know the actual level of scrutiny in Equador; and 2: does anyone know if you can buy decent wine conveniently in Quito (our point of entry)?
Help or ideas appreciated!

I took six bottles for customer gifts with me to Quito this past January. I did not have any problems with Customs, they did not look at anything. But I did not declare the wine either.

I've been to Quito twice in the past year, but have not had the chance to look for any wine stores. Thus, I cannot comment on that question. However, I have found good Malbec from Argentina at restaurants, so I assume that the shops should have some reasonable stuff.

Have fun! Quito is enjoyable and I would love to be able to make it to the Galapagos at some point.
