also, don't miss castle hill inn, you can sit out on the point and sip viogier and watch the sunset. pretty impressive.

The wife and I will be going to Newport for 3 nights over the Columbus Day Weekend and would love to have recommendations on places to eat, (especially BYOBs) things to see in RI (I figure I can see the whole state in 4 days) etc.
Newport has ALOT to offer. I spent two summers there (2002 and 2003) and sampled many restaurants in town. My favorite is a seafood restaurant called Scales and Shells, Asterisk and Obelisk was excellent as well. They are nice restaurants but not over the top upscale. I don't recall what the BYOB situation was though....
Columbus Day will be perfect down there too because all the summer renters will be gone and you'll be able to enjoy the town. Have fun!

there are a dozen or more huge mansions to tour, that can easily take up a day or three. we only did two of them(the breakers and the marble house), but they are both highly recommended.

Thanks for the links Tbird. Castle Hill looks like a great place. You should ask Aussie and fellow Park Slope resident Heath Ledger to do the 10/14 with you. Better yet ask his girlfriend Michelle Williams!
