For me it was May 2002. Blue Oval invited my wife and I to his home. When I told my wife that we were invited to a dinner at the home of someone I met on the internet, she wanted to know if it was a swingers website. I finally convinced her to go and no swinging was involved. If my memory is correct, lamb and Northern Rhone wines was the theme.

I think my first was a very lovely dinner at mattach's house in, say, 2008. He and Mrs. mattach were very gracious hosts and we had a great time. I don't recall exactly who was there, but it likely included Ampuis and mneeley490...

Fun thread!

I agree - a great time! So much so that we had a couple more in Philly before moving on to Chicago and Toronto.

My first offline was the one in New Orleans organized by the King and Queen of Hearts at the now closed Gabrielle. I believe I sat with M/M Vino Me and maybe the Seaquams and Tyees. Can't forget Seaquam's joke that went on forever in the hotel room.
Sometime in 2008. It was a Jaboulet La Chapelle vertical in London organized by Bobbyc and still one of my favorites. Private room, great food to pair with each flight, very knowledge and engaging people and the wines were pretty good too.

London is a great city for offlines. I miss it.
I forget the exact date, but about 4 years ago with Paul and Stefania (along with others) at some sort of Argentine steakhouse in downtown San Jose. Do not remember much about the food or wine from that night, but made some fantastic new friends for life!!
Feb 08 with Kybo and some of the others. It was the first time I'd been out of the house since my son was born a few weeks prior. I don't recall what all the excellent wines were that night, but we did celebrate my son's birth with a few bottles of '96 Lenoble BdB

i think you randomly showed up in NY for one of the offlines too!
I think it was sometime in 2002 with a bunch of folks from both the WS and VinoCellar boards. Dinner at Equinox with lots and lots of wine.

But I'm getting old and can't remember when and which crew the dinners were for. I do remember one that PurpleHaze attended when my son, now 25, was at when he was 14.

Talk about jumping into the deep end with both feet. Smile

I was at this offline and I think I sat near you and your wife.

Not sure of the year of my first -- nor actually which was my first. My first traveling off-line was with the CWM and it was a tasting of WS Top 10 wines, where I met Vino Me, Otis and many others in the CWM. Probably within 6 months of that, I also got together locally with a forumite who no longer posts. We now have a very small group that gets together about every other month. In fact, I'm hosting the group tomorrow night for dinner.

If that was possibly in March 2010, then that would be the farthest from home I've ever attended an offline Smile

Yes it was that night!
Looks like it was Dec 07 (wow six years ago) at an offline hosted by the always gracious JC and FKG. My wife thought it was weird going to somebody's house that you met on the internet, but now looks forward to getting together with such a great group of people.
