How was this?

Sorry just saw this. It was very good, at first zip the most noticeable difference vrs the 23 year Zacapa was more coconut hint. Nice to drink a bottle to mix things up but i think i prefer the 23y old more.

Luck, rarely ever being on my side, I discovered too late that I really enjoy the Elijah Craig 12 year small batch bourbon. So of course they recently made the decision to quit making it, in favor of a multi-year blend. Of course. Now it's as difficult to come by as a razor in Amish country.

The Barrel Proof is still 12 years old, and at 140 proof, you can water it down to 94 proof and come out the same $ wise. Smile
We had a Woodford bourbon dinner at the club Friday night. We had:

Woodford Reserve
Woodford Double Oaked
Woodford Straight Rye
Woodford Reserve soaked with macerated cherries all day to pair with the Cherries Jubilee dessert

I've only ever had the Reserve in the past, but I really liked the Double Oaked and will seek this out. The Rye was also interesting and added a nice spice element not present in the others. The Reserve soaked with the cherries tasted like Kool-Aid and would be a headache waiting to happen with more than one glass.

Never had it either, as it's double the price. Worth it?

Didn't know it was double the price. Looked at Binny's and see the Double Oaked is $60 per bottle. It's worth that to me.

How was this?

I liked it quite a bit. Smoother and less bite than the single barrel to my taste.

To me this, and Eagle Rare, are two of the better easy-to-find and easy(ish)-on-the-wallet Bourbons out there.

I'm with you on that. Eagle Rare is my favorite, not super expensive bourbon. And I also agree with BillHike and prefer the small batch to the single barrel. I got to taste one of their limited, single vintage bourbons at the distillery last year and it was outstanding. Haven't been able to procure one though.

Hmm...I'm kinda the opposite. I like the Single Barrel over the Small Batch. Hey guess it's a good excuse to do a side by side tasting Smile
