Rob, which do you prefer? I was shut out of the single barrel, but got 2 of the Small batch. The first bottle did not last long!

Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye
Ok, so although CR has never been in my liquor cabinet (I mean, come on; CR was the stuff that most guys thought was the crème de la crème back in high school because it came in those purple velvet bags), I do enjoy a good Canadian rye from time to time. Pendleton is a good example; tasty, smooth blend, if a somewhat "beginner" whiskey.
But as it has now been crowned "Best of the Best" whiskey in the world this year by the Whiskey Bible, I thought maybe I was missing out on something. Picked one up at Costco today for $37 (d@*%! WA liquor tax), and poured a dram with a cube of ice.
My impression: Not great. Kind of one note, not much sweetness, oily texture, certainly not harsh, it is a Canadian, after all. But I think Pendleton has far more flavor, at a lower price point. So I don't see what the hype is about at all. If this were a wine, I'd score it at about an 86.
This will be going into some whiskey sours, I think.

Hey, I resemble that remark!

Thanks for the comment on the Northern Harvest because I was curious after reading about its award last week.

Your friend is a smart man... Every year I drink more and more Japanese whiskey. The purity is unrivaled.

You're welcome. I feel like I took one for the team this time.

Piger Henricus Gin.
A small, local producer. First time trying it. Really fragrant, but not sure I liked it so much in a martini. Need to try it with tonic.

Not sure about convert - I used to drink WT when I was in High School and college. It was quite good. Would not be a top choice of mine but definitely a good option where choices are limited.
Single Barrel Double Oaked Woodford Reserve Bourbon.
