Was offered a glass of Blanton's Bourbon, my first, by a friend who claims it's his favorite. I was impressed. However, upon hitting my local store only to find none, I was told that Blanton's is, "Only selling through bars and restaurants because of the shortage." What?!? Just when I get a hankering for a new Bourbon (to me), I can't get it. What's this all about anyway? I searched on W-S, and it's out there, but none in WA State.![]()
So BRR, did you ever find your Blanton's?
Reason I ask, is that I now find myself seeking a couple bottles, and it seems that after several hours online, no one will ship liquor interstate anymore.

Blanton's bourbon.

Four Roses Single Barrel
Woodinville Whiskey Company Straight Bourbon. This is not the 2 year microbarrel. This is the culmination of a 5 year bourbon barrel program that they started when they began the company in 2010. Very smooth and rich.
Casamigos Reposado last night with dinner. Very nice.

I've tasted this and agree. I think some are turned off by "celebrity" ownership. I would consider purchasing.

Count me formerly in that group. When we were out in Santa Barbara County I was all for skipping Fess Parker and Fred MacMurray. When planning our time, Fess Parker fit well, so we gave it a try. I was impressed by almost all their wines.
The guy at my LWS recommended it. Didn't know of the celebrity ownership until my wife noticed it. Like you said, the quality is there which is what matters.quote:Originally posted by billhike:quote:Originally posted by GlennK:

I'm in that group too. There may be the rare exception where a good/great wine is owned by a celebrity. More often though, it seems to simply signal inflated prices for the level of quality.
For example: To quote Dan Ackroyd: People will pay extra just because my name is on it. I'm laughing all the way to the bank! Ha Ha Ha" At the time his ok but nothing to right home about Cab Franc Icewine was $90 per 375.

Do you suppose celebrity works for this, too?

Made some food with one of my best friends last night who happens to be a really good chef. We had a couple bottles of wine, then proceeded to polish off the last ~half of a bottle of Macallan 25 year that he has had for a while.
It was a good night. It was a long day at work!

Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask
I've been getting into spirits a lot more of late, starting with aged rums, and then moving into bourbon and scotch. I appreciate the recs I've gotten from the board and have put together a pretty decent little stash I've been working through, all quite enjoyable. I use a method of drinking I call "modified neat", where I pour a couple of ounces into a shaker with 3 ice cubes and let sit for about 15-20 seconds and then pour through the strainer onto some whiskey stones from the freezer (found they couldn't bring the temp down enough on their own and a few drops of water was OK too). The most recent ones I have enjoyed are:
Eagle Rare - probably my least favorite, nice profile but less smooth and has a burn/somewhat rough finish.
Evan Williams Single Barrel 2005 - I really enjoy this and a great value at $26.
Knob Creek Small Batch 120 proof - Wanted to try a high proof bourbon, and this one delivers with a great profile and is very smooth with little burn. Nice value under $40.
Blanton's - a very nice profile that I let warm up a bit more also with a good finish.
Redbreast 12 - This is the smoothest whisky I have ever had. The flavor profile is more subtle and elegant, akin to fine burgundy of whiskies.
Being of Scottish heritage (mind you 241 years removed), felt I needed to explore the drink of the home country.
Glenmorangie 10 - a light "beginner" Highland scotch that I enjoy. Not as accessible as the bourbons, but I appreciate all that is going on in there.
Ardbeg 10 - decided to skip all the in between stuff and move right to a peat monster from Islay. Well, not something I would drink regularly at this point, as the peat smoke is in the forefront, but some sweet edges come through and only the Redbreast is smoother on the finish. A lot going on here and the finish stays with you for a long time. Also far lighter in color than any other whisky noted.

Both good, of the 2 - the Kirkland which is indistinguishable from Knob Creek to me.
