English Harbor 5 - pretty tasty
Tanqueray
Did anyone else pick up a bottle of the Makers Mark Cask Strength bourbon? I purchased 2 bottles but haven not opened one yet. At 375ml per bottle I'll open one at a small dinner party to share and polish it off in one night and save the other for the home bar.

It's 7 degrees here (feels like -10 with wind chill) and just walked my huskies for over an hour. Tonights choice was easy- hefty pour of Pappy Van Winkle 12 year.

Bunnahabhain 12 yr old. Straight up after a short swirl with an ice cube. Amazingly complex and satisfying. Has me seriously considering the 18 yr old available at the local monopoly.

Thought about it, but the price up here is prohibitive. That is a good price, though.

Ice cube in a single malt !? Ack
Not what you think ML.
"Short swirl with an ice cube" as in 3 seconds and then remove the ice. I find it doesn't dilute the flavour yet enhances the aromatics. Works really well with cask strength single malts and can help some other higher alcohol ones as well. Works for me.

Highland Park 25, bottle bought directly at the distillery, some 8 years ago, lots of memories related to that bottle.

For similar reasons, I am holding onto 2 limited production bottlings I bought in Tomintoul at The Whisky Castle.
Bulleit Rye.
Angel's Envy Bourbon...digging the port cask.

I picked up a bottle of this. It was in with the cognacs and I just assumed it was a cognac. It's nice stuff. Made mostly from Pinot using a cognac still from what I understand.

Need Superbowl beverage advice:
Among a list of Bourbon, available in Luxemburg, which one would you recommend?
Here's the catalogue of a local shop, with quite a wide range of Bourbon Whisky (please check pages 1-2)
PDF-list
Dont know much about Bourbon, say my benchmark is the Woodford Reserve. Anything better, worth the price, on that list above?

Gotta go with Fighting Cock!

The Jefferson's isn't bad stuff either.

All I can say is you have access to some REALLY nice bourbon and I am actually quite jealous! That is a damn fine selection! Especially the Handy Sazerac Rye and William Larue Weller! However, at a much more reasonable price point, I would choose the Eagle Rare 10. Enjoy!
Thanks, getting Eagle Rare 10 + Jefferson's sounds like a plan, allthough i agree "fighting cock" sounds very Superbowl-like

I am a big +1 on the Eagle Rare. Its been my bourbon of choice at home for the past few years, whether it be for an old fashioned, a julep, or just straight up. Great bourbon.
Try the ELMER T LEE I think you will like it.
Evan Williams Single Barrel, neat. Nice - not too hot.
Bought this in Louisville a few months ago at the Evan Williams Experience downtown after doing the "speakeasy tasting". It was put in cask the year my wife and I met.

Yeah plus it's extremely smooth.
green spot irish whiskey
Thanks for the recommendations anyone. Back from the quest for Bourbon Whisky. It appeared both Jefferson's and Elmer T Lee were not on stock, but i was happy to grab one of their last bottles of Eagle rare 10yr. The guy in the shop told me, that in the future they'll get only limited quantities of this.
I asked wich of the available stuff stood out and would be a contrasting style to the Eagle rare, the guy recommended either Knob Creek or Dickel, i went with Knob Creek.
That leaves room for improvement, eg a Larue Weller, some year later.

Hmm.. Knob Creek reads "small batch", but in fact procuced by Jim Beam. Probably Dickel would have been the better choice? Maybe i should have been less greedy.

i would have chosen the dickel amongst the two, but knob creek has plenty of fans.
isnt dickel diageo? much bigger company then jim beam =)
most scotch whiskys are produced by Diageo and other huge companies, that doesn't prevent those Whiskys from being very drinkable.
The mention of Beam Company, ... well, ... just made me think about the standard Jim Beam, which is not my Whisky of choice.
The Knob Creek is very drinkable, i must say.
