I'm taking the day off. I'm meeting a friend today for lunch, and we will enjoy lobster (grilled) and white Burgundy.
I'm getting hungry as we speak.

Homemade chili here. My eyes are watering.

I had a hot dog from a non-US citizen street vendor (AKA a dirty water dog; the food not the vendor). Am I gonn'a die?
On Tuesday Mrs. Glennk and I went to Sushi Zo in West LA. This place carries a “soup nazi” type reputation in the exaggerated food blog world due to its omakase only and no cell phone policy, but it’s really not that serious. The chef is intense, but very nice and spent some time with us in the beginning to make sure we were not allergic to anything and got a feel for our likes and dislikes before starting the show.
We probably went through about 25 courses of very small, but absolutely amazing quality sushi. Easily the best I have had outside of Japan. The freshness of the fish was mind blowing. Each piece had a wonderful firm texture, but just melted in the mouth. Some favorites were the best toro I have ever had, spanish mackerel, skip jack, baby tuna, blue crab hand roll, monkfish liver, uni with squid noodles, cod sperm (I’m not kidding), young yellowtail and on and on. Don’t let the cheesy location and decor fool you, this is the real deal if you like traditional sushi. This quality doesn’t come cheap so be prepared to throw down some serious cash, but well worth it in my book.

Couldn’t pass up Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles on my way to LAX yesterday.

With work slowing down for the holidays, my wife and I were able to sneak away for a long lunch today. We have been trying to get out to Chez Bruce in Wandsworth for awhile now and lunch was the easiest way to secure a table. We each started with a refreshing glass of the house champagne while reviewing the menu. My first course was a foie gras and chicken liver parfait with toasted brioche and it was simply wonderful. There was a nice apple jelly that provided the perfect hint of sweetness to go with the rich and creamy pate. Outstanding. For my main, I had a tender pork belly with a mustard sauce, roasted potatoes, shallots and a caramelized apple. Flavors were spot on and a great pair with the 2001 Domaine le Sang des Cailloux Vacqueyras “Cuvee Lopy”. My first experience with this wine and I was impressed. Mrs. Glennk started with a saffron and king prawn risotto and then a fancied up boeuf bourguignon. Chez Bruce lived up to expectations and some.
If it wasn’t for a couple of conference calls this afternoon, I would we napping on the couch alongside Mrs. Glennk

Lunch today was: A simple chicken-stock based long grain rice al dente, seasoned with black truffle salt and freshly cracked black pepper. A salad of butter lettuce and Roma tomatoes with more black pepper, black truffle salt and 1 year aged manchego cheese, all drizzled with Nicolas Alziari extra virgin olive oil, THE BEST.
