My first ever white Mexican wine.
I only had a couple of glasses. In a blind tasting I would have guessed Torrontes. The wine worked well with our lunch.

Oh-oh! You know the old adage--
Once you've sampled some Mexican white
Montrachet won't ever again provide delight
At least you'll be able to save some money.

Hot chocolate while watching some huskies give a dog sledding demo.
Wonderful lunch with an old college buddy at Santa Monica Seafood Restaurant.
Dozen Kumamoto oysters - some of the best I have ever had.
Maine lobster roll w fries.
As they are the suppliers of seafood to the top restaurants in town, there is something to be said to cutting out the middle man. Delicious.

Today, out for some good sushi with my son.

This is an absolute crime. The only acceptable order at CFA involves a mixture of spicy and regular chicken sandwiches with extra pickles and copious amounts of sweet tea.
Tell me about it...
Mixed greens, tomato, kalamata olives, sardines, salt & pepper, olive oil & vinegar
A friend prepare duck confit on Thursday, and one of my wine groups will be heading his way for lunch today.

Before the very smooth and scenic ferry ride back to the UK...menu dejeuner:
Entree: avocado/pea(maybe half a potato in there...) purée with a dollop of a smoked speck in a cool beurre blanc (W. Fevre petit chablis)
Plat: pork roast rolled and stuffed with pancetta (graves blanc); wife had the pan sauteed salmon with an excellent bearnaise and a pouilly fuisse
Dulce: a sort of toasted almond praline split with an almond chantilly creme...the gastro-highlight of the trip. Wife had a slice of a merengue/coconut loaf cake which was also excellent.
Even the kids menu enfant was excellent.

Hard salami and reserve Irish cheddar with baguette and a glass of cheap, but good, Chianti.
Kale salad with lemon juice, dried cranberries and almonds.
Three hours later I'm hungry and so totally unsatisfied I"ve got a litre of pomplemousse Perrier and a big bag of Sweet Chili doritos.
Sometimes it just doesn't pay to try and be too good...

Hot Doug's (Chicago), a popular hot dog joint on the West side for those unfamiliar.
Stand outs (shared among several people):
Foie Gras and Sauternes Duck Sausage with Truffle Aioli, Foie Gras Mousse and Fleur de Sel (yep- on a friggin' hot dog...gotta love it).
Vietnamese Chicken Sausage with Sweet Chili Aioli, Cheese-Stuffed Hot Peppers and Fried Rice Noodles.
Chicago Dog with the works was great as well.
Had a Rattle Snake dog as well- tried it out of curiosity, but didn't really enjoy it...the meat was tough and that's about all that stood out.
Great spot to try once, but the line is ridiculous, especially with the announcement of permanent closing this October. We went at 10a and waited an hour. The line by the time we left was 2+ hours...on a random weekday!

Thanks for the info EB. I've been pondering making a jaunt over there on a day off before they close thinking that it might not be too bad during the week. I guess I was wrong. I honestly never thought it was anything out of this world, but wanted to go for nostalgia purposes since it won't be around much longer.
