He had an 11 person band last night and honestly it was very reminiscent of the final gig in The Commitments movie except that everyone was friends and there was no fighting. Over the course of almost three hours he played his music, he played Van Morrison, he played Woody Guthrie and Joni Mitchell. They finished standing shoulder to shoulder across the front of the stage with The Auld Triangle a Capella (and without mikes) with every band member and eventually even the roadies each doing a stanza with the crowd responding with the chorus. Magical.

Two weeks ago I caught the latest Iced Earth tour with Sanctuary and Kill Ritual opening. They played the small room at the House of Blues so the sound was awful...but Sanctuary was even worse. I followed that up last week by catching a show by the Iron Maidens, an all-female tribute band to Iron Maiden. In short they were fantastic and lead guitarist Courtney Cox (not the one from Friends) was truly impressive.

Mrs. TLV and I saw Joshua Radin at City Winery Tuesday night. She's gone with me to see a lot of bands that she doesn't necessarily follow, so it was my turn to take one for the team. I didn't really recognize any songs, but I enjoyed them all.

The opening act was William Fitzsimmons, who I had never heard of, but also enjoyed. He cracked me up after playing the first two songs, which were very dirge-like, when he said he was going to cool it with all the happy songs and play something a little depressing. I'm still chuckling about it as I type it.

bomba, you'd better see him now if you can as it doesn't seem he has much gas left in the tank. mrs bman thought his show was more like a variety show than a concert, as his 10 musicians and 3 back-up singers all took turns doing either extended solos or just performing a song on their own while he was offstage. We presumed that he must have had a few beers before the show and needed to pee a few times....

As for the photos, Sunny, while the set is much bigger and more modern, the clothes? Not so much. And during one of the tunes he showed a series of old concert photos, some of which resembled those you shared!

What did you expect Bman? To see him prancing around the stage in a leopard skin suit singing Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? Ripping through a raucous version of Every Picture Tells a Story with Ron Wood at his side? (he's busy with another geezer gig).

That 1975 tour Sunny mentions was probably the last time he was worth seeing. In fact I was surprised to hear he was even touring. I figured he never ventured out of Las Vegas where he's slotted in the matinee shows between Englebert Humperdinck and Celine Dion.

I recall that the band was sloppy and lethargic, and Rod looked alternately bored and pissed off throughout the concert. The crowd went nuts for Heart (who played a blistering set) and sat on their hands for the Faces. Rod didn't like that. I had a similar situation back in the 70's when I saw HEART open for Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. Being a huge Deep Purple fan I was ecstatic that Ritchie was bringing his new band to my town, but they were terrible, even with Ronnie James Dio handling vocal duties. Keyboardist Tony Carey (RIP) seemed drunk out of his mind and they didn't even do an encore. Heart, on the other hand, were incredible. Ann Wilson's vocals were amazing and Nancy Wilson's playing impressive too.

Actually, while I cannot swear it was while singing Do Ya Think I'm Sexy (which he did sing), he did indeed wear some kind of faux animal skin suit at some point of the proceedings!

The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan Las Vegas is a great venue to see a show.

The concert was terrific! Setlist was really good and the band was spot on. Highly recommended.

Went to the Rock n' Roll HOF Induction Ceremony

Howard Stern inducted Bon Jovi, his speech was funny but also sincere. Bon Jovi (the band) sounded better than Bon Jovi, the singer

Disappointing, the 3 Dire Straits band members outside of the Knopfler brothers gave a brief speech about how the band has personal issues, and didn't play a song.

The Cars played well, the Moody Blues were good, and the artists that did tributes to Nina Simone and Sister Rosetta Tharpe were very good as well.

Ann Wilson and Jerry Cantrell did a tribute to Chris Cornell, playing Black Hole Sun, that was killer, and The Killers did American Girl by Tom Petty that was also very good.

A very unique experience, my first induction show. Unfortunately there was no group jam session at the end.

I watched the Dire Straits induction. There's a 14 minute clip of it on Mark Knopfler's website. At the induction ceremony bassist John Illsley said Mark Knopfler didn't attend for "personal reasons", not because the band has personal issues. In an interview elsewhere Illsley said that he tried to convince Knopfler to attend, but it wasn't important to him.

Knopfler has played on Illsley's solo albums. Keyboardist Guy Fletcher, who attended the induction ceremony, has been a member of Knopfler's band ever since Dire Straits split up. So I don't think there are personal issues between those three.

Very cool, Pat. I've always wanted to attend a R&R HOF ceremony.

The broadcast will air on HBO on May 5, and is usually available to stream for several weeks afterward.

How was it?

The concert was very much like you might expect from this band, Steve: loud, crazy, interactive, disorganized, funny, and energizing.

They played 20-25 songs, including several covers, over a two-hour period.

Wiggs and Macpherson provide the stability to counter the unpredictability of the Deal sisters.

I really wish those four had been able to record a follow-up album to Last Splash.
