Went to see Belle & Sebastian last week at Metropolis. Excellent with the exception of 3 or 4 new songs, which are borderline disco/dance crap.

They have a lot of good songs
Went to see Mac McAnally last night at City Winery in Chicago. He had Eric Darken on percussion with him, and Nadirah Shakoor was in the house, sitting right next to me before she got up on stage and sang a few songs. It was an exceptional show last night, especially given that they were at Alpine Valley the night before with Buffet and the full band. He's such a great songwriter, and the stories between the songs are almost as good as the music.

We met him and Jerry Jeff Walker at an outdoor concert in the Keys about 8-9 years ago. FKG introduced herself to Jerry Jeff, who introduced himself to her and she goes, yeah I know, we are hear to watch you play - it was funnier than it reads
Steve8
Bit of a drive but Matthew Sweet is playing Halifax Urban folk festival 9/1 and 9/2
Last Thursday night, Iron Maiden at BB&T Center in Sunrise, FL. Amazing setlist and show...proving further why they are my favorite band!

Same concert after many hours and many acts, I was drinking AP Vin but out of a red solo cup by that point and one of our neighbors with whom we had been speaking graciously attempts to share some of the beers he had just gotten (there was free beer at the event) turning my AP Vin from pinot to binot. I did not have the heart to say anything
I saw Jerry Jeff perform in a bar in Austin in the early 80's. Really enjoyed the show and made me a fan.

I did see that but it is indeed a bit of a drive. Call it 14 hours. I found it odd that he's going that far to play and not play any other gigs up here while in the neighbourhood.
Yes when I saw that I figured there would be Montreal and Toronto dates but nada
Bryan Ferry at Sony Centre in Toronto. Promoted as “Bryan Ferry performs Avalon”, he actually only did six of that album’s 10 tracks. The rest of the 2 hour show was a mix of other Roxy Music classics and the best of his solo career. Absolutely stellar band - 2 guitars, keys, violinist/keyboardist, sax/keyboardist, bass, drums, and 2 backup singers. At times there were 3 people playing keys, recreating that lush synth-based Roxy sound. Overall, they gave the Roxy Music songs a more muscular and sinewy sound. They had a harder, funkier edge. A bonus was having Chris Spedding on guitar. He’s now 75 and hasn’t lost a step.

Chris Spedding! I haven't heard his name in decades. I first heard him from his days with Jack Bruce.

TOM, if you want to see what Spedding is up to these days, here's a clip of Roxy Music's performance on the R&RHOF show earlier this year. Spedding in on the far right, up on the riser. Grey hair and a little paunchy (but I guess that describes most of the original members of the band).
The band in this clip is mostly the same band he had at the concert I saw, except of course for the three other original Roxy guys. But Chris Spedding, the bassist, drummer, keyboardist, female sax/keys, and two backup singers are the same.
Saw Midland last week. Pretty much my favorite country band in the world right now.
Tonight we saw Jimmy Eat World and Third Eye Blind. JEW was awesome (disclaimer...they are my favorite band), but Third Eye Blind wasn’t too bad either. Jenkins talks too much about nothing, but their popular songs are really good. Apparently they bit off more than they could chew though, as they closed the general admission lawn and put those people in seats (venue had 18000 capacity). First time I’d seen that before.

Great, I always like him.
I remember seeing Spedding in 1981 at Bingeman Park in Kitchener. I can't remember who the rest of his band was but do recall them all looking like a pretty tough bunch. Kind of funny to see Spedding now at 75.
I'd also like to take this opportunity to diss the RRHOF for taking far too long to induct the great Roxy Music. Two years after effing ELO.

While The Guess Who continues to wait to even be nominated, despite oodles of hits, millions in sales, and the love of fans of all ages. Should be called the British/American RRHOF....
And what about Joe Cocker?
I was completely blown away by Queen and Adam Lambert last night. 9 rows from the ceiling in a huge arena, and we may as well have been on the floor 20 rows from the stage. At 72, Brian May is an incredibly energetic and obviously talented performer. Roger Taylor’s drumming and backing vocals were great - I mean, he is only 70! While they had a backing percussionist RT was really playing the meat of the parts, and quite well. All of the additional musicians are really, really good.
I have to give special props to Adam Lambert. When these guys first teamed up, I was skeptical for several reasons. Filling in for Freddie Mercury is simply not possible, as AL has said many times. Also, I had some silly reservations about a “reality show kid” doing this music justice, both in vocal performance and onstage presence. My wife went a year or two ago and raved about the show for days. The opportunity of an extra ticket with some in-laws came up, so I jumped on it.
Lambert is an incredibly gifted and powerful singer with crazy range. In my opinion, he had just the right amount of flamboyance for the music to go along with great chemistry with the band. He is also obviously appreciative of the opportunity and mindful of the band and Freddie’s place in rock history. To the point, he f***ing nailed it. Also, Queen’s catalog of music is very special. If you have any interest, do yourself a favor and see this show. It’s an arena rock spectacle that has grandeur to the eye, buy is driven by the fantastic music and how it was performed. Bravo.

I'd pay just to see Brian May play guitar.

Agreed, much overlooked.
Mumford & Sons - Tremendous energy, enthusiasm, and humor. The four band members were backed by five musicians that played drums, keyboards, violin, trumpet, trombone, accordion, and mandolin. The combined instrumentals, along with strong vocals, produced a very powerful sound.
The sold-out crowd was fully engaged. I didn't see many people sitting throughout the show.
Marcus Mumford's vocals remind me of Bruce Springsteen.
It was a very fun outdoor concert on a beautiful night in Salt Lake City.

I'd like to take this opportunity to diss the RRHOF for being the RRHOF. Since its founding I've never found it to have a real reason for existing and have always thought of it as a joke.

I love these guys. Saw them in May. Didn’t love their newest album but it played better live than I thought it would. Seeing them again in September, down here in SD. They are doing a concert weekend in Cancun in February with Nathaniel Rateliff that we are strongly considering.

The British pretty much get dissed as well. Yea, the British no brainers are in - Beatles, The Who, Stones, Pink Floyd, etc but while they put in the 4th/5th tier American acts and even non rock acts, the 2nd/3rd tier British acts either aren't even considered or wait for years after eligibility dates.
This coming Sunday I'll be seeing Queen + Adam Lambert. I've been looking forward to this since it was announced, but even more so since Billhike saw the show and gave his opinion.
While not a fan of Queen have heard nothing but rave reviews. As for the RRHOF, some of those concerts at the Garden are legendary. Have a bunch on DVR I watch frequently
Avett Brothers. So good. Great set list, and they really have a great fan base. Looking forward to their new album.
A couple of "40th Anniversary" shows:
The B-52s, OMD, and Berlin
The B-52s seemed tired; OMD played with tremendous energy and really fed off an enthusiastic crowd; and Terri Nunn's voice might be better than ever. Berlin closed their set with a cover of 'Highway to Hell' that had the crowd frenzied.
The Stray Cats
I had never seen them live. Damn, they are talented musicians! Brian Setzer, Lee Rocker, and Slim Jim Phantom were in complete command and maintained a very high energy level throughout the night. They did an excellent cover of Dick Dale's Miserlou that might have been the highlight of the show.
Last Night: Phil Collins - primarily for my wife but at same time, nice to see him once in my lifetime. Back issues keeps him sitting nearly the entire time, but voice held up well and of course know most of the songs. Kept mostly to solo stuff with a few Genesis songs mixed in.
Last Sat Night - Disturbed - great show and what I really loved is they play a good dose of their most recent album which IMO expanded their catalog and truly highlights how great a voice David Draiman has...was awesome to see them again (my 3rd time)
Jinger from Latvia. Here in Palm Beach
Went to the local festival and saw a good amount of music. Headliners were Kings of Leon (meh), Dave Matthews Band (great), and Mumford (awesome). It’d been about 15 years since I’d seen DMB, and they still rock. Second time seeing Mumford this year, and they are amazing live. They covered NIN’s “Hurt” which was really cool to hear. Also really enjoyed seeing Bryan Adams, Duran Duran, and the Cult for the first time. Wu Tang was good, Snoop was fun, and Maren Morris is going to be huge. Decent lineup this year, but easily the weakest of the 5 versions that have taken place so far. They are moving the festival to the Padres stadium next year...not sure how it’ll work out.
Also saw Zac Brown a couple of weeks ago. They were great. Awesome musicians and great songwriters, especially compared to the more popular country acts right now.
I’m going to see St Paul and the Broken Bones on Thursday, and then getting back to my punk roots and seeing Bad Religion on Sunday.
AZ
I went Saturday as well. Highlights for me were Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes who I enjoyed at local jersey shore bars growing up and the source of my lifelong nickname, Squeeze, Black Eyed Peas, Michael Mina cooking demonstration (he fed us dinner) and One Republic. Saw DMB and I just don't get him. Any way, venue was hot and they did a poor job with places to sit and chill as compared to prior years. Hopefully better at petco though I'll miss the convenience.
Ohana Festival in Dana Point, California
Satirday night: Eddie Vedder - awesome, playing with a four string quartet - highlight was "Black" with Glen Hansard.
Sunday Night: Red Hot Chili Peppers- rough, drunk and high crowd.. Band looked tired.

Nice! Just 20 minutes up the road from me. Thought about going but had work to do.
Just picked up tix for March show of A Bowie Celebration. A group of alumni from his touring bands and some others. Playing my favorite local spot. Closest I'll get
Sat night at Jannus Live in St. Petersburg saw two Swedish metal bands - HammerFall and Sabaton. Was an amazing show, made even better due to friends wanting to avoid the crowd and getting a Suite for the show. Toward the end of the show, the HammerFall lead guitarist wandered into our suite..then the lead singer and bassist. Great guys. After not hearing of either band until a few months ago, I've been hooked on the music
Saw Stereolab last week at the Corona here in town. Mixed. At times they were excellent, others a little boring. I liked the older stuff better. Outstanding musicians to be sure.
