is it still a martini if you had 3 parts gin and a lemon twist, stirred in ice?

No vermouth.  Not a martini.

I like to pour a dribble of vermouth into a chilled glass, swirl to coat and then pour in chilled gin.

Funny!  Winston has a plethora of alcohol related quotables, for sure.  I do think that a whiff of vermouth does make a martini better.  Otherwise, it's just gin and bitters.

Aviation-  been playing around with this recipe

2 parts gin, 1/2 part maraschino cherry liqour, 3/4 creme de violette, 1/2 part fresh lemon.

Btw I recommend the Death and Co version:

2 oz Plymouth gin

3/4 oz Lemon juice

1/2 oz Luxardo maraschino liquor

1/4 oz Simple syrup

1/2 tsp Creme de violette

Bombay Sapphire, little sugar syrup, little soda water, meyer lemon juice and peel from first lemon off our tree.  Delicious

I'm jealous. I live near Seattle. I tried growing a dwarf Meyer lemon tree in my living room, with large windows facing a southern exposure. It still didn't make it.

We have the tree on our deck in a large planter - I believe it was planted in May - first fruit was 7-8 lemons - there are 50+ budding now - we'll see how many survive
