New car time. I test drove a 2018 Audi S5 w/ sport/dynamic package and loved it (RS was tempting but no way I fit a car seat in that thing!).

So far the S5 is the front runner but not sure if I want another sporty car, or move back to SUV or even a pickup (live in a pretty rural area and always doing house projects or things on the property and a truck would be very practical).

I drive about 6 miles each way to work on country roads and when I travel take a car service to EWR/JFK, so really just need something for a quick commute.

5.78 Hemi, of course! Was looking at the diesel but no rebates on those. So, went with the truck I could negotiate the most off the price.

5.78 Hemi, of course! Was looking at the diesel but no rebates on those. So, went with the truck I could negotiate the most off the price.


I am partial to the diesel (have the same engine in our '14 Grand Cherokee), but you'll be happy with the Hemi.

The diesel in the 1500 actually had a lower towing capacity, so this worked better for me; especially with it doubling duty as a winery/vineyard truck.

Finally decided to give up my beloved 2000 Jeep Cherokee 4WD, after my mechanic told me that the next time I bring it in, he many not be able to find parts for it. He had to search far and wide last Spring for a manifold to fit it. It was a 2-door manual, and a bit of an rarity, parts-wise, and the OEM parts he ordered somehow wouldn't fit.  That car was sooo fun to drive in the snow! When I sold it to a dealer and I was walking away, I was feeling pangs of regret, like I'd just sold the family dog.  But there were already 2 sales people fighting over which would buy it, so I guess it went to a good home.

From that, I transitioned to a 2016 Dodge Challenger R/T, 5.7 Hemi with very low miles, and all the bells and whistles. Found it online down in San Fernando, California, and flew down from Seattle one Saturday to pick it up. Silver color, which was not my first choice (I was looking for something far more obnoxious), but it has a fantastic premium red leather interior. What a great drive up the coast! I was never a gear-head, but I find I'm having fun finding after-market mods to improve the looks and horsepower bit by bit. So sorry, place that I work; I'm not going to be your savior this year when it snows.

so you don't have enough power with a 5.7 Hemi?   Gear head.

Ha! There is a feature on the dash that has 2 digital stopwatches; one times how fast you can go from 0-60, and the other is 0-100. I already hit the 0-100 in 7.9 seconds on a back road. That was in normal mode with regular gas, not even the sport mode with premium.  Needless to say, I'm having fun with my mid-life-crisis car.  Told my wife it was either that, or a big busted blonde. She said the car would be cheaper for me in the long run.  She did draw the line at the 6.4L, though.
