Nice car. jalopy

Thanks for the link, Rick.

I would have liked to know how much the car sold for in the USA before it was brought up here. The local dealer's asking way too much for it IMHO, and its history doesn't make it drive better or more reliably. C'est la vie.

Does look very nice, though.

eBay listing from Montreal importer

The dealer was also trying to sell it directly for USD$57,500 or about CAD$74,000 at the time. I would say $70k is a good price, not screaming deal but good price. It's also a LOT less than Weissach is asking for (if that's the same car). Also the soft/ruffled leather option that that car has doesn't add any value to a used car.

You could get this or this for probably more than $5-10k less than what they're asking for that 997...

Also this looks like a screaming deal and is something I think you had been looking at.

You are a very, very bad man, Mr. Sutherland, as are most enablers. Big Grin

Yes, it's the car at Weissach. Ridiculous price, and it's been sitting there for 6 weeks. I wasn't really looking for one of these, but both my wife and I love the colour combo, plus it's the model I would be most interested in. We're off tomorrow for 10 days, but if it's still there when we return, I'm going to put in a realistic take-it-or-leave-it offer.

The 'screaming deal' is a good price. The coupe with AWD is model I'd want, though, so it would have to be the recent release. The only issue I have with this car is that it's awkward to park in our parking stalls, though I guess I'd get used to it pretty quickly. I was going to look for a 2016 model next Jan-Feb, but will only buy if I find almost exactly what I want at a fair price.

You will not regret on a 997, best generation on water cool 911....the 991 is just not to my liking
Local dealer gave me a 2016 Jaguar F-Type R coupe for 24 hours. Very nice car, with a Jekyll/Hyde personality, sedate, fairly quiet and comfortable, but becomes a beast in Sport mode. Some of the nicest and snarliest exhaust sounds I've ever heard when you toggle sport function for the exhaust, though it's pretty hard to sneak up on people then.

I don't think it quite has all the bells and whistles it should (seats are heated but not cooled, for example) for its price, but damn, this is one really great-looking car. My wife absolutely loves its appearance, and I love her, so I just bought a fully-loaded 2017 S coupe with all-wheel drive, white exterior with the chrome blacked out and black tornado wheels, and red leather interior with performance seats. I pick it up next week.

I think a drive down the coast, maybe to SF, will be in our near future. Smile

For me, a drive down the west coast is a just a drive.

But a drive down the east coast? Well, that's a journey! Smile

One of the many compromises I have to make for this vehicle is the small trunk. It will handle 2 carry-ons, but not very much more than that at all. I think it's fine for up to about 10 days max, but don't think I would want to drive cross-continent in this car.

Me thinks you should be taking it all the way down the coast.....

Sea, very nice. That said, when I close my eyes I see S driving the car down the coastline, not you. Razz

Great car. Let me know when you do make that drive. Would love to share a bottle or two.

Honestly, she wanted this car far more than I did, and really directed this purchase, so she will be driving the car. That said, after some rapid-fire negotiation she has agreed that the car can be entirely mine during daylight hours.

And because she didn't bother to read the fine print in our agreement, also after dark. Smile

Consider yourself lucky- it is $500/shoe for my car, and when we were doing construction, we had to replace several tires due to the workers dropping nails.

Thatsbwhat you get for buying a car 4x the cost of mine
A guy at work just picked up his Tesla Model X. He let me drive it to lunch. I really liked the drive. Really good visibility of the road and it was pretty f'ing fast. I found the big screen distracting but I'm sure you get used to it. Wish it didn't have the 3rd road to add more storage space. Also don't love the look of it but it's growing on me. Something to think about when my lease is up.

I test drove one a couple of weeks ago, very good visibility! The gull wing doors will take getting used to.

FWI: For the seating, you can fold the last row down or even not get them at all.
They have a few options of seating, 5,6 or 7.

I knew you could fold it down but that still takes up space. Didn't know you could order it without it. That's cool.

I bought a 2015 Legacy for my son to drive to school. I wanted the version with the "EyeSight" auto-braking system (I think that is what it is called), as well as all the other safety features. I could get all the newest safety features on a Subaru for a lot less than a Mazda, Toyota or Honda.

It's a nice car. Subarus don't seem to be popular in South Florida, but I saw a ton of them in the mountains of N.C. The four-wheel drive is a nice touch, and the gas millage doesn't suffer.

One thing I noticed is that the car is not as "smooth" as the competitors. The pedals are pretty sensitive.

But overall I have been impressed, and am pleased with the car.

Car and Driver rank in Premium Sports Sedans:

1. Cadillac CTS-V Big Grin
2. Audi S6
3. Lexus GS F
4. Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4MATIC
5. BMW M5
6. Maserati Ghibli

Just got #1. It's a beauty in radiant silver and it has options I don't really need, but Cadillac only makes 1400 a year, so I took this one. Polished wheels, Recaro seats, carbon fiber option, painted rotors, car cover (which will sit in its box in my garage for the three years I have the car, track recorder, etc. I would have gotten the Nissan GT-R, but Nissan wanted $24,000 more over the course of a three year lease for a car with a sticker price $10,000 more than the one I got.

I love the car. My complaint with my 2014, which had 556 HP as opposed to the 640 HP in the new one, was that the engine was too quiet. This one sings to me.
Bought the legacy. Glad I'm in good company with Rothko. Lots of bells and whistles one of which is incomprehensively stupid, -at least to me. You can use the shifter to switch to manual. Then there are stupid paddles near the wheel to increase or decrease the gear. Dumb. I'm sure no one uses these. Other useless thing for me is standard on most all cars these days...cruise control. In an urban environment, pretty useless. But the safety features are pretty good. Will donate the Prius to charity

If you want to stay diesel then look at the MB GLS. But if I was buying a new SUV right now it would be hard not to get a Volvo XC90.

The T8 gives you 400hp/470ft.lbs and 54 mpg in a beautiful truck with fantastic interior and 7 seats.
