In reference to above conversations, I too am peeved about the recent move with craft brewers to keep adding more and more hops. The beers are IMO often undrinkable. My dad is a huge Hop-Head and I don't know how he does.
My theory is that the hop-war is driven by two things:
1. It gives the Brewery X a one-up on Brewery Y because "We used more hops than this guy!"
2. Its the easiest taste to distinguish in a beer, so any moronic hipster can taste it and say, "Wow! This beer is so hoppy! I love it!!" Thus, instantly becoming a beer conisseur.
A couple years ago, you used to be able to find wonderfully balanced, and drinkable craft beers. Brooklyn Brown is still one of my all time favorites. The Left Hand Nitro Stout also comes to my mind. Sam Adams surprisingly also puts out some sensational seasonals as well. IMO, of course.
Amen. I've finally come to realize that I don't like IPA's and that the "More Hops" mantra simply leads to increasingly bitter beers.

Generally +2 - although I've come across some that I can drink they aren't my first choice.

All this hot weather talk. Is it hot in Toronto as well?
Currently 68 in Santa Fe, but would be happy to enjoy a Sofie.

Currently 93F and feels like 109F with the humidity (according to the weather network). It's hot. Crotch-pot cooking hot. The police to show people how hot it was, baked chocolate chip cookies on the dash of a cruiser yesterday.

C'mon. Saying a beer is too hoppy, is like saying a wine is too grapey.

I love IPA's and bitters, btw.
Too grapey like "this Aussie Shiraz tastes like Welshes Grape Jelley!"?
I went to an IPA cask tasting with abour 40 beers a couple of months ago. They were all so far over hopped there were maybe only 4 beers which you would be able to drink a full pint of (let along more than one). And I like hops! Heck one of my best friends has a hops farm! I pick them fresh and eat hops shoots all spring.

Elysian Space Dust IPA, again. Just can't seem to get enough of this, but it is just a seasonal.
Went into my local grocery (one of the few that stocks it in bottles) and find about 7 Elysian beers in a row on the shelf. Every one is on sale, EXCEPT the Space Dust!

They seem to be starting early this year. I've already seen Southern Tier Pumking Ale on the shelves.
Flip-flopping between Guinness & Boddington's.
Lagunitas Lil Sumpin Sumpin ale. Hopped to where it resembles an IPA more than a wheat beer.

For all the Florida folks, Founders Brewery is now for sale in Fla. I know they are selling it at Total Wine, not sure where else. I am really excited to try their stuff. They have a great rep among the beer crowd.
Krombacher Pils
I have friends and relatives who aren't really wine people so I like to have some beer around. Sometimes I'll join. I kinda like Pils but was astonished at what most of the German, Polish, and Czech Pils go for at Binnys. Hadn't heard of this but it was fairly inexpensive, by comparison at least. It's nice.

Nope. They sell it in Florida.
Usually just the regular Shiner. But right now they are selling a six pack of mixed Shiner beers. So I still have 4 more Shiner beers to go through.
I actually never knew that Shiner made anything other than the Bock. When I lived in Texas, that is all I ever drank, after having made the mistake one time of ordering a "Lone Star" and being put in my place by the waiter.
Also, had another Sam Adams Octoberfest last night.
Shiner has widespread distribution and has for years.

i tried the dogfish 120 after being very highly recommended took it home and wow. but for me wow in a bad way. i couldnt drink it. way to strong for me. 20 percent alcohol and the flavor just way way too much. im impressed that you liked it!! the funny thing is i really do like the dogfish 60 min and 90 min ipa's. i used to drink them until i read there was 320 calories in a 90 min. ehh ill stick to wine for that amount of calories.

Agreed. The DH 120 Minute is more of a novelty item, IMO. It's fun to try, but that's about it. I imagine it could double as cough medicine

320 calories in the 90 -- so essentially, the 120 minute was dessert!!

I had a Woodchuck pear cider. Interesting, but reminded me a lot of the wine coolers I used to drink when I was underage.
