What did you think?

It didn't do much for me either way. I didn't dislike it, but it was just kind of "there". Although it was the last beer I had of the night, and my taste buds were a bit worn out.

Nah - you pretty much nailed it. Unfortunately the "National Beer of Texas" doesn't live up to the lofty title. Ack

When I think of a Texas beer ( non-craft) I always think of Shiner Bock.
I have two cases of homemade Hefeweizen and two cases of Belgian Wit that I made in March sitting in the cellar, and have started working on them (tipped the FedEx guy today with a sixer after he brought me a case Big Grin)

I am really happy with the Hefe; I don't see how it could have turned out much better....the Belgian wit on the other hand needs to bottle condition a little longer (it is pretty green).

+1

Amen to that.

I may have already told this story before, but when I first moved out to Texas for the Army, I went down to San Antonio after a couple of weeks. There was a bar on the Riverwalk called "Dick's Last Resort" which was famous for its surly waiters.

Anyways, the waiter comes up to us and asks what I want to drink. I say "Lone Star", since it is the Beer of Texas. He gives me this look, and says: "Where do you live, son?" I said: "Temple, Texas", trying to appear like a native. He says: "No self-respectin' Texan orders Lone Star; he drinks Shiner Bock."

So I said: "Give me a Shiner Bock", and I don't think I ever ordered a Lone Star ever again.

The boat part sounds good. Wink

Bill, I agree. All they needed was some beer to make the day more enjoyable.

That said, it is always a good idea to drink plenty of water while boating. Wink

LOL
Was at a cocktail party fundraiser for my daughter's ballet school on Friday night, and, lucky for me, the director is a complete Belgian alehead and had quite a nice stash on hand. I enjoyed

St Bernardus 12
Brooklyn Wild Streak
a Belgian Brown Ale and a Saison whose producers escape me

Plus, there were two guys and two gals (one is also a sommelier) I hung out with that are starting up a Belgian style brewery right here in Boca that will open in September. A much more fun night than I expected!
