Isn't that true. If you have any of those back here now they will take getting used to. I like the Guinness extra cold as well when you can find it in a pub.

Gordon Biersch Marzen's with burgers tonight
Piraat Ale from Belgium. I think I'm starting to get it...

I heard that Anheiser Busch just bought them out.
Hope this isn't true.

IB, I'm in town this week ( fingers crossed) and look forward to trying the beers you so graciously gifted me with.

It is true, but the founder and CEO is staying on to run GI. They are expanding their brewing facility in it's current location. They already had a distribution partnership with AB. I'm not worried, at least not yet. AB will have nothing to do with the original GI brewpub.

If you are referring to Pere Jacques, I'm interested in your thoughts. IB had been beating the drum on this beer for a while and I finally tried it recently. It's now one of my faves.

Agree wholeheartedly
I will offer an opinion, soon.

Metropolitan Iron Works Alt, brewed in Chicago.
Tröegs Nugget Nectar Ale. A really nice IPA brewed in Harrisburg, PA. Nice citrus and pine notes. The hops, while prominent, are nicely balanced by malt so that this is not a one-dimensional beer.
New Belgium Abbey Belgian-style.

Have always wanted to try this.
Port Brewing 'Wipeout' IPA
Tasty.
Tasty.

How is this? I've never had their beer before.
You should seek some out. It is a seasonal brew (February) so hopefully you'll still be able to find some. It is on my current list of favorites along with Bell's Hopslam, Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA, my old standby Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, and Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale. The Celebration Ale is seasonal as well but I always make sure that I buy enough at release so that I can enjoy a bottle every now and then throughout the year.quote:Originally posted by kingofcool:Have always wanted to try this.quote:Originally posted by Altaholic:

I liked it a lot. German style, light copper color and what I would call a moderately roasted malt flavor character. It seemed pretty light on hoppiness, and balanced overall.
Question for the gang - sort of "beer related" and we drank it last week so not too far off topic...
I'm not usually a cider fan but in Ireland we had Bulmers, which stateside is called Magners. I actually really enjoyed it but can't find it anywhere. I checked their website and it appears the only U.S. distributor is in Arizona and only sells to retailers. Any ideas??

I've probably consumed more Celebration than any other beer out there (SN's PA probably would be second). We can't get Troegs down south unfortunately. And actually, as I type this, I had it one time in Philly and loved it. Wish I could get it down here.
Just had Stones Session Ale collaboration. I liked it quite a bit for a low alcohol (4.2) brew. It has some of the bite for a hop head, but I paid $4.00 for a 12 ounce bottle, that makes having a session kind of tough on the wallet.
Goose Island Pere Jacques.
Goose Island Matilda. St. Bernardus Tripel.

Yeah - see what you started?!?!?
Split a bomber of it with 3 friends after brunch along with our weak attempt at cigar smoking. Needless to say, we enjoyed the beer more.

I actually sent a mixed four pack of Matilda and PJ to our friend in Dallas. Haven't heard a peep. But, he is used to having Westvleteren 12 on tap, a real Belgian I have yet to try.
Shiner Blonde. Tasty and refreshing, minus the body of the bock.
Enjoyed six beers today at The Porterhouse, and their Plain Porter is easily one of the top five beers I have ever enjoyed.
This past week down in Costa Rica...
Imperial Cerveza
Imperial Cerveza
Spaten Dunkel. Meh. I much prefer Optimator.
At the brewery on tap to celebrate the end of the world:
Lost Abbey Avant Garde
Lost Abbey Serpent's Stout
Lost Abbey Avant Garde
Lost Abbey Serpent's Stout
New Holland Dragon's Milk. Bourbon-barrel aged, and a nice match for a flourless chocolate torte that had small dashes of cinnamon and cayenne.
Murphy's Stout at local pub in Cork.
Playing any darts?
Going with Summer Solstice from AVBC. You can drink it like water. Very dangerous beer.

Enjoyed their red ale as well. Have you tried the Bulmers? It probably wouldn't suit a lot of folks on the board but I'm curious if you have, and if you liked...
