Please post notes. I've got a collection of 1978 CA Cabs I'm holding for a horizontal, including a Mondavi Reserve.

Board-O I had it from magnum recently and it was singing. Everything you'd expect from an aged Cali Cab. It still had plenty of life left ahead of it too.

Thank you, sir. This is one of 2 bottles of this wine that I'd originally planned on bringing to the 2007 Philly Brunello Offline. I let it sit, and instead (stupidly) sourced 2 more from a local DC store for the offline. Both of the newly acquired bottles were awful. The twin to the one I'll open this Wednesday was shared with the friend I brought to the Chicago Italian offline who you met. We both agreed that it was off the charts good. I'm hoping for something similar this week. Fingers crossed.

1988 Mouton for our anniversary dinner. Fill is just below the bottom of the neck. It's been in my cellar since release.

2000 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto di Serralunga d'Alba

Ready and waiting for a loooong lunch tomorrow.

1988 Badia a Coltibuono Sangioveto.  Should be interesting...   Tj's original note on this wine appears to be missing, or un-searchable but I still remember his wife's first impression of the aroma of this bottling...

"Feet!"    Details to follow.

Geez, don't you ever drink any young wine?!!  (in his best Steve Martin in The Jerk voice...….)

Sure.  Just the other day we had a 1998 Shiraz.

Have you tried this side-by-side with the Howell Mountain?  I would be interested in hearing about how they compare.

I haven't actually, but I opened it up a while back with some of the locals and while it wasn't as good as the HM, no one thought it was much behind it.  Might be the vintage though, as it's actually the only Napa Valley I've had.

A few years back I attended a Dunn vertical blind tasting hosted by Toronto Vintners. It was supposed to be all Napa Valley, but it was revealed afterward that there were a few bottles of the HM thrown into the mix:

1991 Napa Valley
2002 Napa Valley
2003 Napa Valley
2004 Napa Valley
2005 Napa Valley
2006 Howell Mountain
2007 Howell Mountain
2008 Napa Valley
2009 Napa Valley

IIRC, the Napa wines showed as well as, or better than, the two HM bottles. Granted ALL the wines were extremely young, but there wasn't much difference between the NV and HM in either quality or profile.

Especially curious about this one. Have one or two 375s left.
