Awesome, isn't it?!

haggis - if you're not already a fan, you might like Ali Farka Toure - King of the subsaharan blues (possibly self-proclaimed, but nonetheless)

I have not listened to much of his music, but I have heard is excellent. I need to acquire some. Thanks!

Vanilla Fudge - Vanilla Fudge

Man, does THAT take me back!

I first saw them at the first major concert in Vancouver's new Pacific Coliseum (previous home to the Canucks) in the late 1960s-- Heir Apparent, Soft Machine, Vanilla Fudge, Jimi Hendrix, appearing in that order. The Fudge's organ sound and vocals blew everyone away (they kept us hangin' on Wink ) .

About a year later, they returned as headliners, with a pretty amazing opening act: Led Zeppelin! And a year after that, Fudge returned again, this time as the opening act for... yup, Led Zeppelin, who by now had established their great rep. It was pretty interesting to see the tables turned that way.

I have not listened to Vanilla Fudge in years (decades?), but still have a soft spot for them. Smile

Cool

I had never really liked "Wild Horses" until I listened to the remastered version through a high end system. And it completely opened up to me. The rest of the album doesn't suck either Wink

Agreed. I have a pretty high end system and it really does makes a difference.

I've been on a bit of remastered buying binge:
Let it Bleed
Abbey Road
American Beauty
"Skull and Roses"

and some early Procol Harum, among others.

I need to start looking for some of my favorite classical and jazz recordings, although I do have a several RVG remastered jazz titles.
Two things:

Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers specifically "Dead Flowers," given that this is Kentucky Derby Day.

Grateful Dead Cornell 5/8/1977, the iconic Dead show at Cornell's Barton Hall. This newly issued 50th anniversary 3-CD set is AMAZING and I can see (and hear) why it has gone down as one of the greatest Dead shows ever.

First album I owned.

I was 8 years old and won it on CHUM-AM. I was a "CHUM Bug" (their fan club). If they mentioned your name on air, you had a few minutes to call in to claim your prize. I remember that I couldn't make an outbound call for a couple of minutes because friends kept calling our house to tell us that I needed to call CHUM RIGHT AWAY!

Absolutely. I love the Barber violin concerto, and have listened to a lot of versions over the years. Gil Shaham played it incredibly, but hearing Hahn's fantastic rendition prompted me to explore more of her work. Incredible virtuoso who's been great at exploring modern compositions.

Have you seen them live?

A few times, but it has been a while. Wonderful performance.

Every time we have been they always have allowed women on the stage to dance towards the end of the performance. Very entertaining! Big Grin

While I don't envy the noise you have in your home, I do wish I was there to see it. The Toronto race experience is one of the best we've had.

Yeah, it's nutty. Try working in my office today - just the other side of the Gardiner from the race track. Worse yet, try driving home from my office with all the road closures and everyone being rerouted right past my office. My usual 15 minute drive took 75 minutes last night.

One word: (three letters, actually): TTC!

Wouldn't help much. The King streetcars were stuck in the middle of all that traffic.

Just kidding. I don't own any of their music. However, Ginger's son Kofi tours with a "Cream Experience" regularly with rotating musicians. We have seen them 3 times in the last year plus and it is always enjoyable. Interestingly, Kofi resides in NW Indiana.
