The Band. The group, the album. One of the greatest albums ever.

Amen. One of the best bands ever, in my opinion.

Underground Garage played the Last Waltz for its Anniversary yesterday. Never heard it so gave it a go. I don't quite get it. I'm sure it'd have been top live, though.

Vince Guaraldi Trio _A Charlie Brown Christmas_

I really like the cd. Glad that Shulz stood his ground on the show, both music and message

I guess I don't know the backstory on Schulz and the show. I think it is my 2nd favorite Christmas record. My favorite is....

Santana, Montreux Jazz Festival.

Watching on public TV? It was on here a few nights ago. I was a little disappointed.

I have never seen this. I will check it out. Which year did they show, 1970?

2011

I thought they should have rehearsed more.

Handel _Ode for St. Cecilia's Day_

Good one!
I'm spinning a little Pletnev; namely, his recital at Carnegie Hall.

I forgot I had it. Was looking for something different. Nice.

Do you have the double CD; the one with the 5 encores?

I was referring back to my Handel Ode, but now I think I want the Pletnev double CD.

Simone Dinnerstein - Goldberg Variations.

fwiw, she was interviewed today on the Diane Rehm show. Very compelling hour of radio, even for folks not normally drawn to classical music.

PH

I'm glad you mentioned this. One of the local classical hosts was on about her this summer. Played some recordings and interview excerpts. I intended to chase something down and then forgot.

I was actually listening to the two recordings I have side-by-side. I have the Hyperion recording with Matthias Goerne and the DG recording with Fischer-Dieskau. They are both great performances. I guess I'll always be fond of the FD one because it was the first I owned.

FD must have recorded this at least 6 times!! I have not heard the one he did with Murray Perahia. Have you? I listed to the Matthias Goerne one last night and don't like it very much. I then listened to the old (1963??) recording with Peter Pears. Fantastic, except for the tape hiss. I think I prefer a tenor singing this, rather than a baritone.

A new recording with tenor James Gilchrist and Anna Tilbrook (Orchid label) is on my wish list.

No, I haven't. The one I have is with Gerald Moore.

Tristan.

I was musing over the fact that I obsess over certain things when I noticed how many recordings of various operas I have. So I checked, and apparently I obsess over Tristan more than the others as I have 5 recordings of it. Decided I better listen to one.

The only instrumental work I have 5 recordings of is Beethoven's Op 111. That's kind of a coincidence because a couple of those are in piano collections of Richter - I didn't buy them specifically for the 111.

My step dad's (dad) favourite song who left this world today.

Hug tight my friends as life can be precious.

That was one of the first songs I knew as a little boy and has always been a sentimental favorite for me because I was born in El Paso. My father was stationed at Ft. Bliss at the time and used to play it saying "here's your song!".

Sorry for your loss...
