My ears are still ringing from the Rolling Stones show in Toronto tonight.

Good show.... nothing unexpected.....

Cool to see Mick run at least 10k on the massive stage at his age and still be able to sing.

Sound was good but not great. Keef's solos were hard to hear but dead on.

I hate to say it, but it was exactly as I expected (and I saw them 2 years ago and 10 years ago).

They were before my time, during that tour I was about 3. I became aware of them in the last few years though, great punk band.

I'm pretty certain there were some three year olds at the gig I went to.

You know, skosh, Victor, should have been a jazz musician. He loves his music, he plays his music, somewhere..
You're absolutely right, Grunhauser, and, the people dancing on the floor, dancing on the floor, were so high.

Tonight a bit of Vangelis (Oceanic), Republica, and Sinead O'Connor (like Halle, she may be a bit wacky, but does have a good set of pipes).
Bessie Smith! Now there is a name I haven't heard in a while.

Back in my youth I was quite taken with Janis Joplin and she often cited Bessie Smith as one of her strong influences. One Christmas I got a double LP of Bessie's music. I no longer have the album, but the one song I recall had a chorus where she sang about: "Me and my gin." Now that was hurtin' music.
Just finished listening to:
Claudia Acuna, "Rhythm of Life".

Now I have on:
Charles Lloyd, "Hyperion with Higgins".

Baird, thanks for starting this thread. It's the only subject on this board that I have any knowledge about. Someday I hope to be able to post a TN with some real understanding of what I'm drinking, other than "I really like it".

No can do. I'm one of those freaks that gets sick as a dog when I play "1st person shooter" games. Can't watch an iMax movie either without turning green. Annoying. Good news is I'm fine on boats, roller coasters, etc.

So it is not an issue of motion, maybe it is the plotlines.

T,

Not full albums. It was a mixed burn. Off the top of my head:

Ozzy: Flying high again, you can't kill rock n'roll
IM: Two Minutes to midnight, the trooper
JP: Heading out to the highway
Crue: Too young to fall in love.

I believe I woke up the neighbors and pulled into the driveway after that. Smile

I can even touch the sky...."

Machine Head by Deep Purple

I think the best song on that cd is "Pictures of Home". In my opinion "In Rock" is an underrated cd. I think percentage wise it is better than Machine Head.

I like "when a blind man cries" best. I'm not sure if it was included in the original release of the album. I remember seeing Deep Purple being interviewed about Machine Head, and before it's release they thought "Smoke on the Water" was one of the weakest tracks on the album.

If you get past the glam and the B.S and just crank it, Motley Crue had some good stuff, and a fun listen.

When he wasn't playing with his "other drumstick", Tommy Lee could play big time drums.

good and fun, yes. metal? no. i LOVE their first release, which was waaayyyy more "pop" than anything else they ever did.

and i agree, tommy was one of the better drummers out there for that era. he had personality.

Wow! Except for me not being a huge Crue fan, my picks would be a duplicate of yours. Eek

I would likely add IM's Flight of Icarus to the list.

I have been trying to ignore this but I must offer my opinion.

Ozzy- best performances Black Sabbath "Volume 4", "Sabbath Bloddy Sabbath" and the "self titled debut". He ruined "Never Say Die" and then took his ****ty vocals with him.

Iron Maiden- I prefer the Dianno era but I think Maiden was still great through Powerslave. Dianno was more rock, Dickinson was more operatic vocals and literate subject matter and the song structures became more epic. I respect both but Dianno was more fun.

Judas Priest- Heading out to the highway is a great rock song. The beginning of their decline though.

My favorite Crue song was Wildside, Kickstart my Heart was okay and I like Home Sweet Home only because they played that song twice at my junior high graduation, ah nostalgia.

You must have the anniversary release because I am without that track. I guess Deeep Purple wanted "Never Before" to be their hit single, it's funny how things work out.

This will be unpopular with Sabbath fans but, I think Ozzy's first two solo albums were better than anything he ever did with Black Sabbath AND to commit further Black Sabbath Blasphemy, I also think Sabbath was better with Ronnie James Dio as well - but it's a matter of taste and it is a different sound.

Mob Rules still sounds great today. I'm a big RJD fan though. I think he was/is the best hard rock vocalist ever.

i agree 100000000% on everything stated above, with only a minor variation of, i think heaven and hell was a bit better than the mob rules. i also liked dehumanizer better than the mob rules. but i don't want it to sound like i dislike the mob rules. GREAT record!

warner bros is trying to put together a box set, sabbath, the RJD years, so they are probably gonna write a new song(or three) for it. woooohoooo!!! Smile

Oh, those were all real good. I was just using MR's as an example. I was just thinking of DIO, and I thought of the song "Turn Up The Night".

That song has more jolt than a double espresso. Big Grin

I think Black Sabbath in the 70's is a completly different entity than it was in the 80's, I do like both, however.

Ozzy's vocals completly changed. I think it was Never Say Die or maybe Technical Ecstasy where he opted for a more nasal/whiny delivery that I do not care for. I found his first two, or any of his solo albums for that matter to be dull. I can understand a different personal preference, I just can't condone it. Wink
