Fully, Completely - The Tragically Hip

My favourite Hip album. Especially like the song Fifty Mission Cap.

I presume you know the CBC will broadcast live and uninterrupted the Hip's last ever show on August 20? Good for them. Sad and poignant.

Definitely plan to watch it. It's going to be tough to watch though. Just listening to the album is making me all nostalgic and weepy-like.

And to watch it with this?
There is some amazing stuff on YouTube. The Yardbirds were on a French TV show in 1968. I just finished listening to "Dazed and Confused" and am now listening to "Train Kept Rolling" which has a guitar intro that is now in the middle of Led Zeppelin Dazed and Confused performances. "Goodnight Sweet Josephine" isn't that interesting though.

Van Morrison, Magic Time.

Can't think of a Van Morrison album that I don't love, and he's recorded a lot of albums.

His recordings are sheer greatness. That said, he should no longer be doing live concerts IMO.

+1 We saw him about a year ago and it was without question the most disappointing live show we have ever been to. Either faced away from the audience or looked at his shoes, inarticulately mumbling lyrics and was off the stage in about one hour. A crying shame because C is, like Seaquam, a huge admirer of his recorded music.

A shame, because his live album It's Too Late to Stop Now is awesome.

"Either faced away from the audience or looked at his shoes, inarticulately mumbling lyrics..." would apply accurately to Dylan's poorly-attended local concert almost 20 years ago! A great disappointment from an icon of my youth.

So many greats from my younger days have been on the decline for years now. A couple of exceptions seem to be Jagger and The Stones (OK, they don't look so good, but Mick still moves pretty fast and the band doesn't miss a beat) and Leonard Cohen, who bizarrely seems to be just a bit better each time he comes to town.

Keep in mind that Dylan was stoned out of his gourd during many of his performances. Not sure about Van......

Add to that list: Bob Dylan, Tony Bennett...

Wholeheartedly agree about Dylan, but beg to differ on Tony Bennett. Have had the opportunity to see him a couple times over the last 4-5 years and he has always shined.

I've seen him half a dozen times over the years, most recently last fall. Hats off to him for still getting out there and putting on a show at the age of 90. But he's now a huge step behind where he was even 3 or 4 years ago. He doesn't have the vocal stamina and strength he used to have - cutting off notes quickly because he can't hold them. He has cut the length of most songs to under 2 minutes (intro, 1 verse, 1 chorus, big finish). And his stage mannerisms are now a series of repeated tics: holding the hands out to the audience with a flourish at the end of every song, etc.

Again, it's remarkable that he's so mentally sharp, that he continues to tour, and that he can sing as well as he does, but he's not the singer/performer he was. For good reason! He's 90!
