Echo and the Bunnymen - Crocodiles
Been in an 80's mood the past few days after seeing this list, which quite frankly sucks.

I saw that list last week and certainly agree. In fact, its such a bad list, I wouldn't even know where to start with a critique

Pinotlvr, you could start with #1 and work up from there.

Hehe...I think a complete re-write of the entire list would be required.

Well at least it was on the list. For my taste I can't figure out how that list couldn't include Tom Waits (Downtown Train), Leonard Cohen (Hallelujah), Pogues (Fairytale of New York) or XTC (All of a Sudden). Not to mention many others.

Hank Mobley "Workout." Mobley is under appreciated, IMO. One of the great sax players. This recording from 1961 is outstanding (although I slightly prefer his earlier "Soul Station"). Usual lineup with Art Blakey, Paul Chambers, and others but with the addition of the amazing Grant Green on guitar.

Nice!
Now, listening to Haydn's string quartets; specifically, the Op. 76 series. I have two recordings that I was comparing tonight: Quatuor Mosaiques (an Austrian release from 2001) and the Kodaly Quartet (Naxos release from 1989). Technology be damned. The older Kodaly version is amazing. Warm, sincere, caressing, and (when appropriate) explosive. The other is cold, icy, and so closely miked that you can hear every inhale and exhale of the musicians. Regardless, Haydn's Op. 76 quartets (particularly Op. 76, No. 3) are some of the most sublime pieces in the classical literature.

Playing which piece(s)? They don't make 'em like that anymore! Steven Isserlis is performing here next month. I've not seen him in concert. Have you?

haggis, I was listening to the Casals station on Pandora. The Bach cello suites were playing first.
As for Isserlis, we were in Dublin a few years ago and missed him by a day. We should have moved our trip to Cork back a day in hindsight.
If you attend, please post your impressions.

What are your thoughts on this one steve8? Huge fan of Sufjan but this album didn't do it for me.

Yeah it's 50 years old, but is still cool in an Old School way and it brings back a feeling you don't get today. Count me as a fan.

Bach organ works. I love organ live, but rarely listen at home, as even my nice rig cannot do justice to the depth, layers, and complexity of a live performance.
