Paul Thorn - Mission Temple Fireworks Stand

Love it! You ever seen him live? Great entertainer if you get the chance.

I haven't seen him live yet. Every time he's in the area, I have something else going on.

This is one of my favorite albums. When I heard it come on today, for some reason I thought of you and wondered if you'd ever heard any of his songs. Too funny.

Ha! You know me too well my friend. Caught him for the first time a few years ago opening up for Bonnie Raitt and, while I love me some Bonnie, I actually enjoyed his set even more than hers. Much like Lyle Lovett and others, he entertains not just with the music but with the stories between songs and overall interaction with the crowd.

We do seem to gravitate towards the same music. Now I just need to get down to Austin and visit that famous sound-stage.

Yes you do!

Elton John - 11/17/70

one of my favourite live albums from a studio

I literally wore my vinyl out on my first purchase of this album. Wore it out. Cool

PH

A terrific show and Amoreena, which I believe was added to a later release, has got to be my all time favourite Elton John song.

+1 on all of this.

"Lately... I've been thinkin'... How much I miss my lady...."

I learned to play all the songs from this album on the piano and continue to play them to this day. I used to play Sixty Years On on stage (in my previous life as a musician), and Burn Down the Mission is still a favourite of mine to play. That and Take Me to the Pilot.

(As an aside, if you've even seen Ben Folds play live, it's obvious the debt he owes to Elton from this period.)

There are bootleg versions of this concert with the entire setlist, all 13 songs. Well worth seeking out.
A lazy day today, so working my way through the Moody Blues' Time Traveller. Nights in White Satin is an all time favourite.

"Breathe deep
The gathering gloom
Watch lights fade
From every room
Bedsitter people
Look back and lament
Another day's useless
Energy spent

Impassioned lovers
Wrestle as one
Lonely man cries for love
And has none
New mother picks up
And suckles her son
Senior citizens
Wish they were young

Cold hearted orb
That rules the night
Removes the colours
From our sight
Red is gray and
Yellow white
But we decide
Which is right
And
Which is an Illusion"

Rick
