That's why I don't go out on Valentine's, New Year's, Mother's day and other Holidays when restaurant excursions are obligatory. Service stinks, food is rubbish, and every other cook, pi$$ed off at the world, spanks the hell out of your chicken with spatula. Thanks, I'll eat at home. Food is better anyway.
Sapril--
I have asked my wife several times where she would like to go for Valentine's Day and she keeps saying "I'll think about it." Last year, I waited too long and we couldn't get into any decent place. (I think it was a weekend last year).
Anyway, what does she mean by "I'll think about it."
Does she want me to surprise her?
Does she really want to think about it?
We have been married 21 yrs.--You'd think I'd figured her out by now.
Should I offer to cook?
She can't possibly want any more jewelry can she? She only has 2 ears and 10 fingers and she has tons of earrings and rings.
Should I get her a gift certificate for Home Depot?
Confused, in Baltimore.
Irwin,

I have to say this, I don't know you or your wife on a personal basis and wouldn't feel comfortable telling you what I think she is thinking neither do I know the status of your marriage. But what I can tell you is how I would think if I was in your wife's situation with you asking her where she wants to go or what she wants to do (with consideration that the marriage is in a healthy state):

A. She really does want to think about it. I am sure you guys have been to nearly all of the hot spots around town and she is running out of places that she really wants to go to.

B. She is not interested in going anywhere.

Another thing to take into consideration is what do you guys usually do for Valentine's Day? I am assuming since you've been married 21 years that you've done the restaurant thing, the home cooking thing, and everything else in between.

I guess the key to keeping it alive is to do something different, something that will awe her, something that will leave her breathless and wanting more...

Whatever you do DO NOT get the gift card...because nothing says "I can't be romantic" like a Home Depot gift card.

If you want some more clear cut ideas, let me know. But I can't help much more since I have such a vague idea of you and her and what you've done in the past for her.

Until next time,

Sapril Ruth

Who da Funk uses a spat for a chicken? Only time you use a spat on the line is when you're grilling fish. Other than that, it's all hands. Sometimes you use a pair of tongs, but that's rare.
I agree with Miss Cabernet.

It isn't very difficult or expensive to give a romantic gift or gesture.

Have you tried this?: Buy two dozens cheap roses, pluck the petals the day of, and sprinkle the petals starting at the doorway that your wife comes in at leading all the way to the dining room or other places in the house. Hershey kisses would work as well.

WHAT'S ALL THIS *&^%$#@! MESS DOING ON MY *&^%$#@! CARPET???

We don't celebrate Valentine's. Our first date was Feb 13th so we celebrate that instead.
Much easier to get a table, the chef isn't quite so p!$$ed off yet, and the spatula is fresh.

Sapril! A little young to be so sure on this, don't you think? Trust me, there are creative and romantic men all over the place. As far as performing acts of romanticism to yourself, I am going to take this opportunity to pass on the best straight line I've been handed so far this year.... Razz

You're just 'dating' the wrong guys. Not to "toot" my own horn, but our engagement story is second to none. And, I buy Terra flowers every other week. However, I must say it can be difficult for guys to be creative... no matter how long they've been together.
well, I've settled on it.
I am going to pick her up after my work day in a limousine, and we're going to the first restaurant we went to on our first date in 1983, where I have set aside a bottle of her favorite champagne and ordered ahead her favorite souffle. I'll be bringing in my pocket an enameled cloissoine ring she has had her eye on.
Way to go irwin (this is what I was talking about, Sapril!)

mwagner,

You're still a rookie at this, so here's a tip from a guy who can still make my woman swoon after 27 years. Randomness. Don't do the flowers on any kind of a predictable schedule. Absolutely don't give them for predictable occasions/offenses etc. Bring 'em home. Wait a few weeks. Have them delivered the next time. My favorite, deliver them in person in the middle of the day with a bottle of champagne and a twinkle in your eye. It's amazing the bonus plan this kind of delivery will get you!! Smile Cool Razz

Yet another spelling correction. I need a spellchecker. Red Face
