Ohio does something similar. There’s even a group called the Farmers & Hunters Feeding the Hungry Venison Feeding Ministry in Ohio. They’ve increased the limits and extended the season in Ohio as well. Overall, I think it’s a good idea. Just like most areas, the deer population is out of control in Ohio. I live in a suburaban area that is not really that rural and most nights I’ll see deer in my yard. I’m really hoping that the population gets thinned out because every year they feast on my garden and they are hazardous to drivers.

When we visited BHV in Oregon, he told us to close the gate immediately behind us so no deer could get into the vineyard and damage the vines. I asked him if deer hunting were allowed in the area. His answer, "I wish it was."

Too bad hunting isn't allowed, it definitely pairs real well pinot. Organic fast food!

About 100,000 deer are "taken" in the hunting season here in Maryland.

Thats a fair amount of venison backstraps! Although I have to believe hunting is allowed in OR. Many midwestern Ven. tenderloins with oregon pinots have satisfied a few winos in this house
