Valentine's Day

We'll be out of the country, but I'm sure we'll find something nice, and I'm bringing wine with us.

We will be up at the cabin with (hopefully) lots of fresh snow, so I am thinking something braised. I just don't know what yet....

Dinner at club with another couple. Have to decide what bottle to bring. Only 3 of the 4 drink wine. One bottle is not quite enough, two is to many (plus comments from wife). Maybe I will bring a Magnum I have of 2006 Roads End Oregon Pinot Noir. Only $8 corkage, same price for a 750m or a magnum.

Grilled Rib-eye & a good bottle of wine.

A friend of ours who usualy comes down for New Years couldn't make it, so he is coming and bringing his (engaged last week) fiancee...

For dinner:
Appetizers - cheese and onion empanadas, seared tuna with cucumber salad
Dinner - Stuffed eggplant with eggplant, feta and spices with roasted red pepper puree.
gnocchi with arugala pesto
grouper balsamic w/roasted vegetables
assorted cheeses
chocolate cheesecake

Hosting supper club at our house...

Crab cakes and another app
Salad
garlic mashed potatoes
Veal Chops Stuffed with Mascarpone, Pancetta, and Caramelized Onions
mini molten chocolate cakes

Thick-cut filet mignon on the BBQ (provided the weather report is correct that it will be only a bit below freezing Saturday night) with home-made Bernaise sauce, matched with something from the special occasion shelf (TBD), and assorted Leonidas chocolates for dessert, probably with a 1991 Croft (how come no one's mentioning their wine matches? )

Veggies? Carbs? Who knows? Frankly I'd rather pig-out on filet and chocolate!

Same here, we'll start with either '88 Veuve Cliquot Vintage Rare or '99 Bollinger Grande Annee and then with the steaks a cab, either '05 Chimney Rock or '05 Cliff Lede.

Just bought a couple of small lobster tails today, and a 2004 Schramsberg Rose (hey, the price was right, ). Now, need to add some items around them for V-Day. . .

Maybe asparagus or my bok choy recipe.

Don't knock it until you've tried it. It's delicious. I served this to a chef friend of mine and he put a similar (though admittedly much better) version on his menu.

Having dinner with wife and the In-laws at Cafe L'Europe in Palm Beach.

Nothing says romance like Valentine's dinner with the Mother-in-law.



PS: Actually it's fine with me, and at least I'm not buying...

Rothko, nice get on the free dinner at Cafe L'Europe. My wife wants to go to Atri Gras in Abacoa so I will probably have some sort of food on a stick. I think they have a wine tent though, at least they did last year.

Actually since I am the only one who will drink red wine, I am restricted to the by-the-glass menu...

Pesto chicken pizza with artichoke hearts, roasted garlic, and sundried tomatoes. A magnum of Louis Bernard 1999 Chateauneuf dupape should pair nicely!
