Hi-

My name is Matt Gephardt and I am a reporter at KUTV-TV. I am working on a story about some of the hurdles of Utah liquor store special orders.

I am looking for someone who has first hand experience, good or bad, trying to special order wine (or other alcohol) into Utah who would be willing to be interviewed about their experience.

(801) 839-1301 is my direct line or mgephardt@kutv2,com.

Thanks,
Matt

I spend 1/2 my time in Utah but have not tried to special order wines in Utah.  I do know that preventing people from ordering wines from wineries is frustrating and that people resort to ridiculous methods to get what they want. I also know that people go out of state to get wines they want and to get them at reasonable prices.  Why should the consumer be restricted from getting things that he wants?

You should look into the reasons why the state is involved in the retailing business of wines, liquor and higher percentage beers and prevents competition in this arena.  I understand the concern of Utah in preventing drinking and driving, but these controls are antithetical to the ideas of free commerce and limited government.
