Hello everyone.

Was that really only the 2nd post sine 1/19? Didn't think I had been out that long.

I have been really busy with work this year. I was also studying hard for a test in June. My wife and I haven't traveled in awhile, so what little time I have had away from work I have been out of town. Unfortunately, it hasn't left a lot of time for wine drinking or buying.

vinole: Sorry about that. I was actually out of town that weekend in Asheville. Hate that I missed the opportunity to meet you though.

Can't understand why anyone would buy an I Phone when AT&T sucks so bad and you can get a droid instead but to each his own. Cool

Thanks for the EasyTether tip.

Up here it's Bell Mobility. Not the same. Not great but no worse than any other.

Starting with iOS3.1 Tethering is an option under Settings>General>Network

Tethers over Bluetooth or USB.

My suggestion is to jailbreak it. Many useful system tweaks available depending on what you use it for. (And unlock too if you travel to the US enough)
iHandyLevel
ZipCodes
Ruler
Shermin Williams ColorSnap (pretty cool)
OpenTable
RedLaser (or any barcode reading app)
Wikipeida
Dictionary!
Gas Prices (doesn't require a login or the annoyance of having to enter in local gas prices to actually see prices)
NYSV Pro and/or KickLite (for public transportation routes and schedules).
MyNetDiary (food diary and more with pretty good library of foods and even dishes)
games:
iQuarters
Finger Physics
Pocket God
Cor.kz - syncs with my Cellartracker
Formula 1 Racing
Geocaching - haven't quite got into, but wife added
SnapTell - really cool. Take a picture of just about anything and does an internet search.
Google & Google earth
Craigsphone (Craig's list app)
Epicurious
Fandango
Wine Spectator Vintage Chart
Weather Channel
MLB.com (lite version is free)
myLite
Depending upon what TV service you subscribe to, most have apps you can use to set your DVR from afar which is extremely handy when you say "dang - I forgot to record the game". In addition (again depending on who you use), a lot of banks and credit unions have apps where you can maintain your accounts, make electronic deposits, etc. My credit union allows me to take a picture of the check I just received and it's deposited within seconds - very handy.

Beyond that, others I use a lot and like that I don't think have been mentioned yet are Open Table (restaurant reservations), SoundHound (like Shazam but gives you lyrics too), Shopper (keeps my shopping lists for me), Dragon Dictation (voice recognition that will capture your speech and let you send it as a text, etc.), Bump (pass contacts and photos between phones with other Bump users), Gate Guru (tells you what's around the airport gate you're flying into or departing from), and FlightTrack (check the almost real-time status of your flights).

The iPhone is one of those things you'll never need when you don't have it, and can't live without once you do...

Ok, I took the plunge and bought a pair of Verizon 4G iPhones this weekend for my wife and I. I can't believe I've waited this long. Amazing devices.

I've downloaded several so far (including Pandora/CNN/Lose it/appzilla2/GPSDrive)

Any new apps that people are nuts about?

You mean the Verizon iPhone 4 right? Its a 3G phone, not a 4G Wink
Besides suggestions above, if you take public transit at any point... Go to Nextbus website on your iPhone and look for your local public transit system. This site allows you to check the arrival time of your bus or train based on your public transit's GPS system. They can also use the location feature and give arrival time of the nearest bus to you. Make this website a site on your Homescreen for easy reference.

Interesting that there isn't any decent app that's wine related fit for this board. Cellartracker is probably one of few.

Just finally discovering the benefit of Netflix etc...... Geez some times I feel like I live in a cave

Montreal in the LONG winters = a cave. Razz
So, now I'm finding out that my Internet Account has bandwidth 'limitations' and that a typical Netflix movie runs through about 7GB of bandwidth. YIKES! Now it's FULL STOP on the Netflix account until I can find out just how much has gone through the account.

Limits on internet usage bandwideth!? This is absolute Bullsh*t! Mad

Have others run across this?
Cor.kz. This app ties into your Cellartracker account. You can browse your collection, drink a bottle, enter tasting notes etc. Pretty handy.

Instead of collecting all the dead soldiers in the morning and sitting at your PC updating your CT and wondering how you went thru so many bottles, you can kill 'em as you go with your phone.

Don't you have Wifi at home? 7GB on your wifi network= 0 towards your bandwidth limits.
