Not sure what i will bring yet, but i think my girlfriend Joy and i will bring one sauterne and a red.... by the way im all for people bringing extra bottles just please note that it will increase our cost per person slightly, they are charging $18 corkage per bottle, im sure we will keep it below $120 each even if we add a few cheese plates
Is anyone coming down from Etobicoke? I have my car at work, have to drop off at gf's place after work and was planning to ttc (ewww) it back to the restaurant, if anyone else is heading in to town around 5:45 let me know. I assume one of you will be good to share a cab back to Etobicoke after.
In which case, I have a second bottle that I'll bring because I want to get people's opinion of it. It perplexes me. It's a 1999 Bongran (Thevenet) Chardonnay from Mâcon-Clessé.
Happy to pay the $18 just to get the benefit of the group's collective wisdom.

I'm heading to the restaurant straight from work (Liberty Village), but I will certainly be cabbing it back to Etobicoke afterward and would be happy to share a cab. I think there might be 3 or 4 of us doing the same.
geez with all these extra bottles we might as well have stuck to magnums!!!
hoping to get there by 6:30 depending on transit. shared ride home would be great sl57

I will be bringing the 1990 Lagrange .
I'll be cabbing it back to Etobicoke, and expect Vinojoe will likely be doing the same.
Changed my red to a 1996 Leoville Poyferre. The Sauternes is still a 1990 Roumieu Lacoste.
Any tally of how many we are now?

In my rush to get out of the house this morning i couldnt find the bottle I was looking for, so I grabbed a '97 Maculan Fratta and an '11 Montelena Chard.
With all the changes, I figured it wouldn't hurt to take a stab at the wine list. Feel free to correct. I'm sure this is incomplete.

I amended mine back to pegau. You missed jhcwine's mystery bottle! If I'm counting correctly we are going to have 18 bottles for 12 people, assume those that haven't chimed in are bringing 1 x 750 each.

that's a healthy ratio. we keep it under a magnum per and stay classy.
Unfortunately I am out. Sudden cold sweats a few hours ago have turned into ear and throat pain and I feel like I'm about to crash...don't think I can sit in a chair for much longer let alone enjoy great wine and food. Apologies for lack of my wine in the mix, furious that I'm missing this (sick gf is the prime suspect), hope all have a great time, see you at the next one.
We are bringing a 1976 Filhot and a 2005 chateau Le gay, hope you feel better Anthony

Sure rub it in with that delicious le gay. Almost home and still feeling cold sweats. Rate now it feels more like food poisoning then flu. I sure hope so. Really disappointed that I'm missing out on meeting up and having some great wines and great food. Hope the event goes really well and see some of you guys soon
Interim report: 11 attendees. It's now 11:15 and 6 of us are still hanging in: jhcolman, vinoevelo, CMS, abryce, aav and myself. Every bottle showed well, food was solid. Great camaraderie. A+
Kudos to all on this one!!
Thanks to Aav for getting this going, and for BigP for saving it at the 11th hour and setting up Le Select.
The camaraderie was great as always, but extra special tonight.
Big welcome to Abryce, and BigP's plus 1!
Highlights:
2002 Bertagna Vosne Romanee les Beaux Monts: Stunning burg, just hitting it's stride.
1999 Delas Bessards: Similar to the Tourettes but more intense.
1990 LaGrange - in a beautiful spot right now
1990 Roumieu Lacoste - Beautiful mature Sauternes, balanced, good complexity.
Thanks to everyone. BigP -you missed the thriller dance

I have photographic evidence.
I fell asleep at 7:30. Still feeling nasty. How did the 05 Bordeaux show?
The 05 Montrose was far more approachable than anyone expected... At least for the first hour or so after it was poured. It seemed to close up after that.
And may I just say that the TWC is good people? A splendid time was had, if not by all, then certainly by me. I was entertained all night. Not a single lull in the conversation.
Thanks to aav28 and BigP for setting it up.
I hope to be at the 20th anniversary in 2024.

A great night to be sure. Good to see you guys.
Loved the 1990 Lagrange in particular, but all wines were showing well.
Thanks for AAV28 and the Big Fella for arrangements.

Great evening guys.
Have to say I really enjoyed the Poyferre, the Ambroise Corton and the Phil-hot for bringing the funk!!!!!
The Pavie and the '05's were stellar. The '90 Lagrange was deadly... the Moss Wood was awesome. Not a dud in the bunch.
On a night when you're graced by the man wearing one white glove.... you gotta bring the funk!

It was great to meet you all last night! Fantastic company and some great wine. I will try to post some notes later tonight.
Awwww, the Julian ringer was a Moss Wood?

Sorry to rub it in Rob, but it was and it was spectacular.
I keep telling myself I don't like burgundy because I like living inside, but after tasting the three burgs we had last night, I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to be able to convince myself. Had a great time as always last night and my hat is off to BigP and aav28 for organizing.
I also thought it was good to know that Le Select has that private room and that if we give them some advance notice, they'll bring in extra stemware for us.

Now that 12 hours have passed, I thought I might be able to post something slightly more coherent than my attempt at 1 AM last night.
Thank you BigP and aav28. Great job on keeping this offline afloat when it was in danger of crashing into a reef. The back room at Le Select was ideal. We could get rowdy without disturbing the other diners... and vice versa.
Great to meet CSM, ABryce and BigP's girlfriend for the first time.
ABryce, your wine selection last night was a big winner. Delicious. Hope you enjoyed your first TWC offline and that you'll be back for more.
Remarkable that we popped 15 bottles of wine and they all showed well. The closest we came to anything being "off" was the '99 Macon-Clesse which was showing signs of oxidation – but it was still intriguing.
It was also remarkable that the two 2005 Bordeaux were as approachable as they were.
For me, the WOTN was a toss-up: the 1990 Lagrange (thank you ABryce!) or the 1999 Ambroise Corton (thank you Vinojoe!).
But everything else wasn't far behind those two. In the words of the one-gloved man, "Yum!"

Not to worry, Rob. I have 3 more. I'll be happy to crack one with you anytime.
Well, it was a wonderful evening. Great conversation with good TWC friends, fine wine and good cuisine. I sincerely thank Aav28 for initiating and organizing this, and BigProvolone for arranging Le Select.
And there were so many good wines. My favourites were the 1990 LaGrange (which was at its peak), the 1999 Ambrose Corton Le Rognet and the 1996 Leoville Poyferre.
The 2005 Le Gay and the 2005 Montrose paired well, with the Le Gay having a more approachable nose and the Montrose a more approachable palate.
I do wish I had the time to disguise the 2004 Moss Woods; it is just so Bordeaux like and stood up well against the Le Gay and Montrose.
And I have never had a Hermitage before and thereby so enjoyed the 1999 Les Bessards Hermitage Delas; very nice!
And I have never enjoyed a Domaine de Chevalier as much as I did this 2005 bottle!
The 1976 Filhot capped the night; just lovely.
I have not mentioned all of the wines; it was a great lineup with not a bad wine in the lot.
So I'm having trouble picking a WOTN. If pressed, I would say the 1999 Ambrose Corton Le Rognet.
I have to say that TWC is such a great group! Friendly, generous and good company! I so much more enjoy opening my better bottles with TWC friends.
See you at the Champagne OL (there are still 4 to 5 spots open).
Cheers

Yes, the Moss Wood was great ; nice mystery bottle. Thanks J!
I checked my past notes and it was the 1996 of the Ambroise Corton Rognet that I had opened a couple of bottles of last year. Very similar imo to the 1999 from what I recall. As Vinojoe said, the winemaker's style comes through in the wine.
Again, what a great crew...errr Cru, and a great night.
Cheers,

All that goodness plus a Pavie? Ugh gf is going to pay for getting me sick.
Can't really add much except to say how much fun it is to "meet a bunch of folks on
the internet and go drink wine with them." A pleasure to meet Alfred and Joy. My sincere thanks to Scott and Wilf for setting this up and to all the attendees for the great wine!

Who cares about the wine; who won the fight?
I think it's difficult to choose a top wine from yesterday, but I'd probably go with the 1999 Ambroise Corton Rognet. The 2 2005's tasted great, but still definitely need more time. I think both Sauternes were great, but will give the edge to the 90. Also thought the 2011 montelena was extremely tasty.

Hi ABryce
Was your Lagrange the St.Julien or the Pomerol? I think St.Julien. My memory is a tad fuzzy and I just don't know why.

I liked these wines so much, that I hopped on Winesearcher and found and bought:
1 x 1990 LaGrange
1 x 1999 Ambroise Corton Le Rognet
2 x 1996 Leoville Poyferre.

Just saw your TN on Cellartracker, as I added this wine to my cellar. A lovely St.Julien it was! Thanks for bringing it to the OL.
Indeed it was the St. Julien. It just so happens that a well shown bottle of 1990 Lagrange pomerol was one of the wines that got me hooked.
Was with a few TWC members tonight and this night came up, hope you're all well and hope we can do something like this again
