Tropical Storm Don

For those of you in Texas, and those of you who are willing to cross your fingers and say some prayers for those of us who are, Tropical Storm Don just formed near the Yucatan and initial forecasts say it's heading our way. We DESPERATELY need the rain and although my job in the insurance industry would make me wish otherwise, I'd venture a guess that a lot of folks around here would even take some wind damage just to get some rain. We live by Lake Travis, which is the main water supply for much of the Austin area, and it's below 50% full right now - down around 40 feet from normal for July.

yikes. i guess i'm traumatized from andrew and all the other storms that have rolled through here, but I never wish for a named storm to head my way.

some rainy days, maybe a string of regular storms, but named storms? no fun. it's a TS that's just starting its trip across a very warm Gulf of Mexico. I'd rather mother nature's indigestion steer clear of me.

either way, i'll hope for the best, hope you guys get plenty of rain, very little wind, and a very manageable surge.

Oh no... I'm with jorge on this one. No named storms.

A few days of a steady but not overpowering rain? Sure. Any kind of hurricane? No thanks. When Wilma rolled through it was only a Cat 1 or 2 and there was plenty of damage from that. You don't need a structure to come down to have serious damage, serious expense and a big, fat headache. I'll pass.

Wishing all those in Texas some rain, too, preferably not in the form of a hurricane.

Speak for yourself bub. It rained for a couple hours here yesterday and the tropical wave a few weeks ago dumped so much rain in the Tampa area that we've become a breeding ground for one of the worst mosquito seasons in recent memory. Should get more rain today too!

Here are a couple of things to think about Jorgito. Underground power lines, my house is a concrete bunker, generator. You guys can come and stay with us if a big mean storm is coming our way. Cool

Seriously though, every time a new track comes out it jogs further east, I dont see this giving us a whole lot of hurricane/TS storm conditions.


Good for us bad for the Bahamas. As long as it clears for our travels on Saturday
