Just a heads up on one of the better secrets in town - Tribeca Grill currently offers free corkage on Monday nights, a continuation of the policy started at Montrachet before it closed.

As usual, there is some etiquette involved with BYOB, even when corkage is gratis:

1. Always call ahead to confirm the restaurant's policy
2. BYOB is generally for better bottles - not a $15 Merlot you just grabbed from the corner liquor store
3. Offer the sommelier a taste of the wine - he/she is pouring, decanting etc. your wine at no profit to the restaurant
4. Consider ordering something off the list as well - even if just by-the-glass

I hope the sommelier at Tribeca Grill isn't the one from Montrachet. We held two offlines at Montrachet on Mondays and the wine service at the second one was atrocious. We didn't have to offer that sommelier a taste. He gave himself a healthy pour of our wines after opening them away from the table. I'm still annoyed that we didn't speak up.
I was not enamored with the wine service at Montrachet during its slow, grinding fade out...the sommelier at Tribeca however (Ryan) is a good guy. David Gordon is also in there from time to time...
Nice heads-up, James, and thanks for posting. I'm not in NY much, but it's always great to give places like this recognition. I always, even when corkage isn't free, feel better buying a glass of something (occasionally a bottle) from the restaurant's list when I BYO.

I still shake my head about this offline!!! Razz
I saw this in their website. Looks interesting and may be worth considering.

Reservations 212.941.3900

Loft Walk-Around Tasting $60

We are featuring legendary wines from Jean-Louis Chave, including his Côtes du Rhône Mon Coeur, Crozes Hermitage, and Saint-Joseph, as well as his highly sought after Hermitage. We will also be serving a vertical selection of Charvin Châteauneuf-du-Pape (‘00, ’01, ’03, ’04, ‘05). Several of the distinct aromatic Rhône White wines, made from Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viognier, will be featured, along with a selection of artisanal cheeses. And for the first time this year, we will have a blind tasting table with five reds served from different appellations ranging in price.

Following the tasting, guests will receive 20% off of any Rhône wines ordered with dinner downstairs in our main dining room.

I just signed up for this tasting. Let me know if anyone else is going.

By the way, when I called the restaurant I was told that their BYOB program (as long as they don't have it on their list) was only on Mondays. If your group is 5 or more, there will be a service charge of $10 per person which sounds reasonable IMO.
Bump.

Let me know if anyone is going to their Rhone tasting ($60) this Monday. It would be good to meet fellow forumites.
