Ok Just to simplify i think my name appears a few too many times, why dont i narrow it down to the following 2 bottles;

2007 Meritage, Tawse Niagara
1997 Isole E Olena Cepparello, Tuscany (Sangiovese) or either the 1996 or 1998 La Sizeranne which ever works best with the flights, or i can bring either a 2007 or 2008 Pinot from Tawse, I have the 2007 Cherry St and the 2007 17th street and the 2008 Cherry St and the 2008 Laidlaw
Hi Bigprovolone

Sounds like you have a great cellar!

You may wish to wait and see what others post, and then make a judgement call.

To help, I will revise the flight / wine list once all or most folks post, along with any suggestions to streamline the number of flights.

And I look forward to meeting you. I too a relatively new to the group.

Cheers

Julian
Hi Folks

Wine List

We're almost there. We have suggested flights and wines from all but aav28, DokTap and Stewart (and sig other). We'll look forward to hearing from them.

Dinner

On the topic of dinner, I need to confirm our menu format to Crush.

As per my earlier email, we can go with either a fixed price menu with a couple or few choices per course (at a cost of $65 for their mid priced menu; see their website) or a limited choice A La Carte menu; full A La Carte is not available in a private room. The A La Carte has soups at $10, appetizers and salads at $15, entrees at $25 to $30 and deserts not shown, but likely available at $10; I'd bet coffee is $3. So an A La Carte meal will likely come to $40 to $65, dependent upon what and how much you order.

However, with a fixed price menu, each course will arrive (for all) at the same time, allowing us to have wine tasting between courses. This is somewhat more difficult when folks are ordering fewer or greater numbers of courses with varying preparation times.

However, I will need majority agreement on the Fixed Price Menu, as we will then be committed to that. Additionally, as you know, there is a $1,000 minimum spend for the room; assuming 20 wines at $10 corkage per, that works out to $61 minimum in food spend per person. A fixed price meal committment will ensure that we get there (the $1,000 min spend). Conversely, if we go a la carte and say the average bill is $45 pp + $10 per bottle corkage, we will be $170 short, with everyone paying a further $12 per person for food that was never served (to get to the minimum spend).

So .. decision time folks. I need a 2/3 majority for a $65 Fixed Price Menu, or I will go with A La Carte. And if the majority agree to the Fixed Price Menu, then all will be committed. I have not checked but do not believe that Crush (or any restaurant) would offer a mix of both to a group in a private room. So be warned now.

So please vote ASAP, as I need to let Crush know: Fixed Price or A La Carte. We'll go with 2/3 majority.

Cheers

Julian

There is information to convey, which takes words. And I am sometimes longer winded. You will have to put up with that. But there has been abit too much whining through this organisation process. It takes abit (or more than abit) of effort to do this. And I am not done yet. Consideration and thanks are better motivators than complaints. Others new members will need to be motivated to do this. I think I may pass the reins to someone else, to organise the next event. Cheers. Julian.
Folks

Dinner

We will do the Prix Fixe, as 12 out of 14 have responded and all voted for Prix Fixe at $65.

Wines

All posted but Stewart (and Cynthia), Aav28 and DokTap. I also have to add another wine (a chardonnay TBD), on behalf of my wife, to share with all. I'm heading out of town for a week commening on the 29th, and would be grateful if all are posted well before then, so that we can all see how the flights are working out, and eliminate any small flights (ie flights of 1 or 2), if the participants are willing.

I will repost the wine list around the middel of the week.

Thanks for your generous contributions, all.
It looks like I must be out of town the weekend of the 11th. I was unable to rearrange my schedule and must take a pass. Undoubtedly, this evening will be a resounding success based on the participants, their enthusiasm, and the quality of the food and wine. Please post copious notes in order that I can get an appreciation of the offline and enjoy vicariously.
Just to clean things up a bit... I've taken license as to my interpretation of intent from some of the forumite's posts as to what they are planning on bringing (i.e. "I'll bring x if someone else does, otherwise I'll bring y

Hi All

I have asked that everyone bring a bare minimum of 1 good bottle (the best you are able to bring).

However, bottles can end up corked. So for those folks that are able or prepared to offer 1 single bottle for consumption, we suggest (but do not require) that you bring a 2nd ("backup"), in case the 1st is corked. If that is the case, we need to know which bottle you wish consumed (primary) and which should be held in reserve, to only be consumed if the 1st is corked or you decide to have it opened anyway (backup).

Some folks may decide to bring 2, both of which will be primary and consumed (that is what I am doing). I am bringing 2 red and 1 white (on behalf of my wife).

Some may choose to bring more.

I'd like to end up with atleast 21 bottles to taste (more than 14 or 1 pp; and less than 28 or 2 pp); I don't mind ending up with 28, but I am respectful of the several folks who said that the 28 bottles we opened last time was just too many ("palette fatigue").

So, bring atleast 1, but preferably 1 plus backup, or even 2 actual tasting bottles if you wish. And if everyone chooses to bring 2 actual tasting bottles, well we'll just have to suffer through tasting all those fantastic wines. Those that wish to rest their fatigued palletes can do so if they wish. I've been exercising mine all month, to be prepared. Smile

So, everyone, please do let me know, if you plan to bring 2 (or more), which are tasting bottles and which (if any) are backup only.

Cheers

Julian
Those Burgundies came from the Vintages auction (provenance unknown), so I’ll bring backups. Heck – they all need to be drunk soon, so we’ll open the backups even if the first bottles are good. Especially if the first bottles are good. To recap the wines:

2 X 1993 Domaine Barthod-Noëllat Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Aux Beaux Bruns
2 X 1997 Faiveley Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Chaignots and

1 X 2003 Calera “Mills Vineyard” Pinot Noir.

I recently had the 2002 Spottswood and it was drinking extremely well. I would suggest decanting for 45 min to 1 hour. Enjoy

Part of my reason to bring it was your recent notes/comments. I'm sitting on a few so thought this would be good opp to see where it's at.
