Saturday night brought eager anticipation in my household for "The Office Special"; a brilliant two hour conclusion to what I feel has been the best show on television in recent memory. I'm sure fans of the show will agree with me that it delivered, BIG TIME! Anyway, I wanted something tasty for the evening and thought a Gewurtz & Pinot would make a nice 1-2 punch. I wasn't disappointed.

Z.H. Gewurtz Goldert 1999: This gem was actually on sale at Esquin for $27.99, and made for a no brainer purchase. The nose screamed of a super ripe pineapple concentrate, which was delivered immediately on the palate. Solid supporting acidity nicely outlined a musky-honeyed quality, leading to a jam-packed butterscotch finish. I agree with Pierre's statement that this wine has more in common with a Pinot Gris than a Gewurztraminer. 92 Points.

St.Innocent 7 Springs 2002: I just received a case from the winery, and was eager to see what was under the hood. The initial decanting yielded absolutely nothing on the nose, but no worries, its still such a young wine. After about 3 hours, the nose revealed a wonderful bouquet of mentholated black cherries giving way to black & red fruits, earth, and a slight touch of mushroom. The finish had a distinct tea note. All in all, an excellent wine, but really in need of some time in the cellar. 91+ points for now.

Cheers,

Dale
