90% sangiovese, 10% canaiolo and other varieties. Light ruby color. Aroma of wet earth of cherry jam. Ligh/medium body, 12.5% abv. From a rather cool vintage, this is a throwback chianti. Red cherries, earth, marzipan, with searing acidity. Rather short of fruit, this wine has lots of nerve and character. It tingles the mid palate. Aged in Slavonian oak cask for 12 months, it still carries some tannins. Medium finish. Very different from the recent renditions of this cuvee, which are far softer, more heavily oaked, vanilla-laced.
