A local wine shop had Pauline Wlodarczyk (the US Brand Ambassador for Palmer) in town for a tasting of some of their current releases. Palmer & Co has been around since 1947 and was started when 7 grower families from the Montagne de Riems joined together. Their oldest vines are 75 years old. Here are my notes:
NV Palmer & Co Champagne Brut Réserve
Roughly 50% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 10% Pinot Meunier. 30% reserve wine. 6.9g/ltr dosage. Light yellow color. This had some sweetness to it. Notes of lemons, citrus and toast. 88 points.
2015 Palmer & Co Champagne Blanc de Blancs
This was labelled NV but was 100% 2015 fruit and the cork states 2015. 100% Premier Cru Chardonnay from the Montagne de Riems. 6g/ltr dosage. Clear straw color. Notes of chalk and brioche withe a unique salinity on the finish. Very lively with a moderate bead. 92 points.
2015 Palmer & Co Champagne Grands Terroirs
50% Chardonnay, 38% Pinot Noir and 12% Pinot Meunier. This is not made every year but 2015 was a very good vintage. Aged for 6 years on it's lees. Clear white color. Fine bubbles with notes of citrus, lime and strawberries. Solid acidity and a very focused wine. 93 points.
NV Palmer & Co Champagne Rosé Solera
42% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir, 10% Pinot Meunier and 8% still Pinot Noir from a solera going back 45 years. Not very pink at all. More like a very pale orange color. Fuller bodied and fruity with cherry notes and a little oak. A deep sparkler. 90 points.
