Drank a few 2003 Bordeaux last weekend. Here are my notes:
2003 Château Barde-Haut - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
This 16 hectare estate is in the Eastern end of St. Emilion and is planted 85% to Merlot and 15% to Cab Franc. The vines average 35 years old. Decanted 2 hours. Ruby red color. Very restrained with old world character. Wild mushroom, leather and plum notes. Give this time. 87 points.
2003 Château du Tertre - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Opened by a friend. Decanted 2 hours. Violet color. Earthy texture. Aromas of roses and cedar. Some plastic notes at first with pencil lead and iron. 89 on day 1. Had this again on day 2 and it was really singing. Smooth and elegant. 91 points.
2003 Château Léoville Poyferré - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
Opened by a friend. Last had this on release at the UGC tasting. Deep purple color. Smooth texture. Drinking well now but will benefit from more time. Bright fruit with cherry, mineral and pomegranite notes. The roundest of the 3 2003 bordeaux we drank. 93 points.
