OK... I implore the expertise of our professional Italian lovers here (Craig, fut, Nicollo, lou, etc.).

A local hole-in-the-wall liquor/wine store has some fairly old barolos for sale at reasonable prices. I don't know the storage of these, so I'll have to find out. But the most expensive of the following is $30, and I only see 1 or 2 bottles of each on the shelves. I'd like to try older wines, so what is your opinion on...

1974 PALLADINO BAROLO
1982 GIOVANNI BAROLO
1970 VILLADORIA BAROLO
1971 PRUNOTTO BAROLO

Any info, TN, vintage ratings, etc. is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, fut.

I can't get the WS vintage charts, so I used e-Bob.

It looks like '70 isn't a great vintage, so I'll lay off. I'll take your advice (as always) for the '71 Prunotto. He doesn't list '74, and he has a good rating for '82. So, maybe I'll try the '82 Giovanni. Now I just have to see how these guys were stored.

Anyone else care to chime in?
I see the ever reliable futronic offers exactly the same advice I would offer. The 71 Prunotto is a great wine and was indeed made by the great Beppe Colla. I would be a bit concerned about the storage. If you pick it up, please give it a month or so to settle down before drinking.

It will be a delicate wine, very light in color with a firm bitter backbone. Yummm.

The others are much riskier.
