97% syrah, 3% viognier from Santa Ynez Valley. Aroma of fig puree and magic marker. Very concentrated and full bodied, 15.2% abv. Thick, creamy, with fig paste, blueberry jam, licorice, smoke. Not tannic. Mouth filling, with al almost buttery, silky feeling. 30% whole cluster fermented, although it feels so smooth that I would have thought its was fully destemmed. Aged for 23 months in French oak, 35% of which is new. Not an ager. Ultra modern take on the varietal. Medium finish, a bit hot. Drink up.
