This wine was beautiful! Color is still all there, deep purple. Aromas of blueberries and black cherries. Lush and creamy, lots of velvety fruits. Silky lingering finish. Great with my fillet.

Decanted 20 mins before serving, and strained the last 1/5 bottle through a coffee filter to get rid of the sediment. This is some very serious Bordeaux, and was the perfect accompaniment to some grilled lambchops. Deep, opaque purple color, with no signs of bricking. Thick, heady nose of black fruits, cedar, and pepper. A little hot at first, but it blew off quickly to show off a very well-balanced wine. Wave upon wave of black plum, berries, cedar, earth, chocolate, and tobacco. The fruit in this wine is still extremely fresh, thick, and extracted. Tannins hadn't quite softened yet, so my guess is this wine still has a ways to go in the cellar. Finish of 45+ seconds. Very enjoyable! (95 pts.)

Enjoyed with friends at Melisse in Santa Monica. Decanted for about 3 hours. Color was deep ruby giving no signs of age. Nose was wonderful with blackcurrants, dark chocolate and some spice. Really thick and lively on the palate with more dark fruits and chocolate along with welcome accents of earth and tobacco. This is in a really nice spot right now because the fruit is so upfront and powerful but the tannins still have a good bit to them which make it a great food pairing. Should have plenty of life left, but hard not to drink now. Absolutely impressed. (96 pts.)

Pardon me for the intrusion but there are 3 different bdx wines from the Libournais region in St-Emilion with confusingly similar names.

1)Domaine de la Gaffeliere
2)Chateau Canon-La-Gaffeliere St-Emilion Grand cru
3)Chateau La Gaffeliere

I'm not certain but I think the original poster was referring to the first wine in my list. In any case, kudos for searching a previous TN before posting and to settle any further doubt, this TN thread will from now on be officially for the 1990 Canon-La-Gaffeliere!! Smile
