I've had great and not so great examples of this wine. I'm so glad this did not disappoint, as I opened it for a friend whose father just passed away.
Awesome aromatics and a dark blood red color. Notes of mulberry spices, sandalwood, blackberry juice, mocha, anise, sweet tobacco, vanilla oak, baking spices, and wonderful dark kirsch fruit. Just starting to show signs of secondary components/aging. Still moderately tannic. Fantastic complexity, and an amazing crescendo from the palate to a long sustained finish. Harlan, for me, is the pinnacle of new age CA wine. 98 pts.
