2014 Sine Qua Non Lightmotif - USA, California (11/28/2016)

Opened by Allred. 46% Roussanne, 22% Chardonnay, 13% Petite Manseng, 11% Viognier, 8% Marsanne. Wonderful vintage of SQN's white wine and showing very well at such a young age. Not decanted. Medium yellow color. An herbal nose with a hint of vanilla. Waxy texture. On the palate, this showed notes of sunflower seeds, a creamy spiceiness and lemon pledge. Well balanced. This was the 2nd best SQN dry white which I have had, I liked this better than the 2001 Albino, 2004 Rejuvenators, 2010 The Monkey, 2011 The Moment and 2013 Resiste. It was on par with or maybe slightly behind the 2012 In The Abstract in my opinion. 94 points.

I've done my share of dusting and that stuff gets in the air. Seriously though, when I write a tasting note, I sometimes include figurative descriptors instead of literal ones (ie. what a wine reminded me of). In this case, there were lemon notes and I also wrote waxy. Those two terms equal lemon pledge to me.

I opened  my one bottle of this on New Year’s eve and boy was it outstanding.  The intensity, color and a core of spicy white fruits  we’re all in balance and while not light in the alcohol department it was not hot at all.  On the finish you could taste the petite manseng as it added a hint of sweetness.  The length of the finish is what makes this wine an all star.  This bottle straddled right between a medium to deeper yellow color.  The key to enjoying this wine is to not serve it too cold.  Definitely the best white wine I have had from SQN. 94-95pts.
