- Germany, Franken (4/29/2023)
2nd time I have had this wine. The first was at the winery from an unlabelled bottle with Paul Furst before he was legally allowed to sell it. I found a couple at auction later for $93 each. This is the top wine from Furst and one of the best German Pinot wines every year.
Served blind. This was out of place in the lineup of 5 wines which were supposed to be lighter reds but included 2 Bordeaux a Cal Cab and a Cote Rotie. As a result this seemed to have a lighter body but was fuller when tried again later. Crimson color. Whole cluster pressed. Cherry aromas. Notes of red licorice, iron, cranberries and wet stones. The tannins are still firm with a nice bite on the finish. 95 points.
