Purchased for $69 at the winery but not tasted beforehand. Jean Stodden's Alte Reben Pinot won the Decanter competition in 2010 for best Pinot in the world outside of Burgundy. Great reputation but sadly his wines are not imported to the US. We visited this estate and met Alexandre Stodden back in 2016. This terraced vineyard was planted in the 1940's and early 1950"s. Decanted for 2 hours before drinking. Little to no sediment. Solid purple color. This had a firm tannic backbone. Notes of black cherries, minerally stone and red currant. The finish has grip and lasts. This is just entering its drinking window. Just beautiful. 96 points.
